Randholee is a mid-range hotel that nestles in imposing hills, in the village of Heerassagala, a convenient distance above the heat and bustle of Kandy town centre. The journey to Kandy from Colombo's International Airport will take about 3 ½ hours.
Introduction
Randholee means 'Palanquin', a favoured means of transport for royalty during the period of the Kandyan kingdom. Royalty would have settled for this picturesque setting surrounded by the Heerassagala Mount Pleasant Range. The hotel is reached via a winding road and is about 15 minutes from Kandy town. Once you reach the hotel gates, a short steep ride down hill leads you to the main reception area. The hotel offers comfortable rooms with spectacular mountain views, meals prepared to your liking and a personalized service. Randholee is well suited for those seeking a quiet holiday in the hills.

Accommodation
Randholee has 25 ensuite bedrooms of which 18 have mountain views and seven are with garden views. Red Dot recommends the mountain view rooms which open out to a private balcony over looking the scenic Heerasagala mountains. Interiors are furnished with twin or double beds with a striking headboard in the design of a palanquin created with timber and local Kandyan art, writing desk, and wardrobe. Other in-room facilities include a/c, overhead fan, satellite TV, DVD player on request, IDD, internet, minibar, tea / coffee facility, electronic safe, 24 hour in-room dining and room service. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
A wooden bridge from the lounge area leads to the restaurant with scenic mountain views. Sri Lankan, Eastern and Western cuisine is served here prepared with fresh local produce. There is an a la carte menu as well as buffets, but the chef will be happy to prepare a more personalized meal and serve it any where you please including the pool side, in the garden or in the privacy of your own balcony. Randholee also has a small gym room, business centre, and games room with a pool table and indoor games such as carom and chess. The extensive terraced gardens are scattered with fruit tree and flowering plants that attracts many birds. There are several vantage points from which you can take in the beautiful mountain views including a summer hut and infinity swimming pool. The hotel is designed with ramps and a lift making it wheel chair accessible. Randholee follows an eco-friendly policy of recycling waste and harvesting rain water which is used to keep the gardens green.
Excursions
Take a walk down hill and visit the Tea Museum which is housed in an old tea factory run by the Sri Lanka Tea Board. On exhibit here are tea rollers, dryers and other tea factory equipment dating back to the 19C during the colonial period. Go on nature trails, hiking, and jungle treks into the Hanthana mountain range. The city of Kandy is steeped in history and culture. Interesting excursions include the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined; Peradeniya Botanical gardens with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; Kandy's rich arts and crafts tradition, including drum making, mat weaving, and crafting Kandyan jewelry, and traditional Kandyan dance and drumming.
