Kurulubedda is a nature lover's dream. After checking in at the Lighthouse Hotel, guests are taken by boat along the Mahamodara River, which is lined with mangroves and marshy areas inhabited by numerous birds and monitor lizards with the occasional purple-faced leaf monkey peering out from the branches. Soon the pier becomes visible where a long wooden bridge over paddy fields and a lotus-filled pond takes you to Kurulubedda's two luxurious two-storey cottages. Submerged in foliage, with branches that reach inwards, the cottages have a feel of a tree house, but with all modern conveniences. The peaceful surroundings, with sounds of bird call and crickets at night, makes this an ideal getaway for four persons travelling together or even a romantic honeymoon.

Numerous species of birds including the Brahminy Kite, white-bellied Sea Eagle, and Red-wattled Lapwing have been spotted here. Morning excursions are also possible to the Kotawa rain forest and Samakanda's organic farming estate in Nakiyadeniya. Kurulubedda's own paddy fields and organic vegetable plots allows for opportunities to learn and assist farmers during harvesting. Visit the nearby temple or take a catamaran ride to Polgasduwa's monastery. The beautiful beaches of Unawatuna, Thalpe and Hikkaduwa are all nearby.
