Media Review
Ruby Millington, Travel Sri Lanka, Vol 4 No 5 , Jan 2009
'The Fortress feels very different from its rivals along the coast: mercifully, there’s not a planter’s chair in sight…..they’ve fitted it out in a style they term `naturally modern’. This translates as traditional architecture teamed with all mod cons….. The verdict? Well, it’s all pretty amazing although, especially for the Luddites among us, all that gadgetry could be seen as little more than gimmickry. Yes, there’s a lot of state-of-the-art window-dressing, but at the Fortress that’s more the icing on the cake than the cake itself. The hotel really scores on location – its south-west facing which means the sunsets are spectacular – the pool is sensational, the ambience is welcoming and relaxed and, above all, it’s different. It’s certainly my recommendation for a luxurious long weekend getaway'
Royston Ellis, Explore Sri Lanka , Jan 2007
'When I thought I was late for breakfast and asked an attendant what time the service finished, I was told with a smile that breakfast is available all day. The Fortress is that sort of a hotel, no regimentation. Guests’ pleasure and convenience is paramount Historically, fortresses in Ceylon were to keep invaders out; now the Fortress has opened to welcome discerning guests, thus creating and impressive new reason to holiday in Sir Lanka'
Tattler , 2006 , Jan 2006
'This mega-deluxe hotel is the latest offering from the hotel group behind Huvafen Fushi in the Maldives. The 49 rooms have 7ft beds, plasma screens, Bose sound systems and Jacuzzis'
Travel & Leisure - USA , Jan 2006
'Singapore’s C&C Design (which recently won an award for the design of Huvafen Fushi, the Fortress’s sister resort in the Maldives) chose a soothing aesthetic: simple lines, Burmese take-paneling, a Dutch vaulted entrance, and expansive garden colonnades that draw the eyes toward panoramic vistas of stilt fishermen casting their lines into the Indian Ocean'
Luxury Travel, Autumn , Jan 2006
'Fashioned like an old Dutch fortress, with splashes of Sri Lankan style, the fabulous resort has a yoga pavilion, Ayurvedic spa and a Sri Lanka tea room.'
Serendib , Jan 2005
'A newly-appointed member of the prestigious Small Luxury Hotels of the World, The Fortress is styled on the ancient Dutch Fort itself…. within the walls of The Fortress is a haven of relaxation'

Mar 16, 2008 : If you want a 21st century experience in Sri Lanka, this was the best for the high-tech enthusiasts. We thought everything was a little over-priced, but service and staff was excellent. Warning- Don’t take the hotel driver option unless you have too much money!!

Sep 22, 2007 : The hotel was very modern and high tech. Rooms really spacious and beds were huge and very comfy. Lacks the charm that, say, Galle Fort and Kandy House have.
