Media Reviews
"as we climb into the hills we are greeted by the astonishingly beautiful landscape born out of the world’s devotion to the daily cuppa. Set at 4,000 feet, the hills here are luminous green embroidery of neatly arranged rows of tea bushes. Their lush leaves create an air of permanent spring that is complemented by a decorous tableau of misty lakes, peaceful woods, Victorian churches and grand 1920s bungalows that are now guesthouses. Book one of the four run by Tea Trails and you can take dreamy walks through the tea plantations, have a green "

Location
Castlereagh, one of four luxurious bungalows in the acclaimed Tea Trails collection, nestles among the rich green hills of the Dickoya region in central Sri Lanka. This super-luxury bungalow was originally built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj and lies more than 4,000ft above sea level. It is a perfect indulgent getaway from the demands of everyday living and an ideal destination for a long weekend retreat. The bungalow is located 45km south of Nuwara Eliya and a drive of four hours or more from Colombo.
Introduction
Travellers approaching Castlereagh from the road can glimpse tantalising views across the lake. This rich sense of anticipation proves to be entirely justified. Nestled in a wooded dell close to the water, this century-old bungalow offers unrivalled water views and superb garden suites. Elegant parquet floors with open fireplaces in the dining and drawing rooms evoke recollections of a bygone colonial era.

The Ceylon Tea Trails Experience:

In central Sri Lanka, lies the Golden Valley of Tea. This is home to old Ceylon. Here, four classic colonial bungalows, built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj, have been caringly restored by Dilmah Tea with the cooperation of Bogawantalawa Tea Estates. Each bungalow is different: Summerville has the air of a country cottage, Castlereagh has an eclectic style, Tientsin is unashamedly colonial, Norwood is more modern, abounding with 1960's character. Summerville and Castlereagh are situated opposite each other on the shores of the Castlereagh lake, Norwood is at the other end of the valley about 15 minutes away by car and Tientsen is about 30 minutes away in the next valley. Each house comes with its own manager, chef, butler and houseboys and between four and six luxurious suites. And when Tea Trails say all-inclusive, they mean it. No properties in Red Dot's extensive portfolio are more consistently praised for their excellence.

There are various Mountain Biking trails in the vicinity and watersports are also available both on the lake and in Kitulgala, the main location for whitewater rafting trips in the island. Golf enthusiasts can take a day trip to Nuwara Eliya for a round of golf on a picturesque course. A 'Tea Experience' is also offered, providing interesting insights into the growth and manufacture of tea - Sri Lanka's most famous crop.
