Horton Plains is the best place for highland birds. The very elusive Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush can be seen in Horton Plains if you can get there in the early hours. The Sri Lanka Bush-warbler is also a highland endemic. Other non endemic specialities of the highlands include the Eurasian Black Bird, Brown Wood Owl and Black-throated Munia. During the migrant season the Kashmir Flycatcher and the Pied Thrush can be seen in Victoria Park in the centre of Nuwara Eliya town.
