Sri Lanka’s tranquil and picturesque coastline is studded with magnificent bays that provide ideal waters for sailing. The North East coast is ideal for sailing from June to September and sailing in the south is possible from December to April. Sailing inland on Bolgoda Lake close to the capital city of Colombo is also popular.

Sailing in Pasikudah & Beruwala
Set sail aboard the Topaz, a 48 ft catamaran yacht, and explore Sri Lanka’s picturesque North East and southern coasts. Spend three to four hours sailing along the shoreline and en route, enjoy swimming and snorkeling in the ocean. Catamaran sailing is perfect for the adventurous who wish to experience sports sailing along the shoreline or offshore. Discover the basics of sailing at the helm of a 48ft catamaran and cool off on the way with a swim in the ocean.

Red Dot offers Catamaran sailing in partnership with Sail Lanka Charter, an experienced sailing company that welcomes families with children, independent travelers and couples on 'Day-Charter' sailing trips - a combination of sailing and leisure. The Topaz sails in Pasikudah and Kalkudah in the North East from April to September and Beruwala on the west coast from October to March.

Sailing in Mirissa
Opportunities for sailing, boating and yachting in the south have improved in recent years, with one significant achievement the establishment of Mirissa Watersports. Red Dot enthusiastically supports this community-based project, which offers watersports such as sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, snorkelling, whale and dolphin watching and boating activities for visitors to the south coast. The Ruhuna Sailing Association trains village youth and provides employment through watersports. It held its first competitive sailing competition this year with several participants from the Bolgoda Yacht Club as well as from overseas.

Sailing in Bolgoda Lake
Bolgoda Lake, located south of Colombo in the suburbs of Piliyandala, is Sri Lanka’s largest natural freshwater basin. The Ceylon Motor Yacht Club, on the shores of the lake, is an established sailing club that conducts sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing and motor boat activities. With an active racing and cruising calendar, club member take sailing very seriously with some even representing Sri Lanka in international events. The club also encourages junior sailing.
