Location
Mahoora Safari Camps, managed by Eco Team, one of the premier wildlife companies in the island, offers camping inside many National Parks across the island including Yala, Uda Walalwe, Wilpattu, Minneriya, Sinharaja Rainforest, Bundala, Wasgamuwa, Gal Oya, Kumana, and the Knuckles Mountain Range. All Mahoora Safari campsites are set up in excellent locations nearby rivers under clear blue skies within many of the National Parks of Sri Lanka. Arrival at the park entrance is requested by noon. Upon arrival, you will be met by a Mahoora team member, transferred to a Mahoora jeep, and taken to their camp site which is located deep within the jungles.
Introduction
The word 'Mahoora' meaning `the great one’ is a term used by Sri Lanka's original inhabitants, the ancient Vedda tribe to describe a person of great importance including royalty. The Mahoora camping experience is designed to be just that, a camping experience blending service fit for royalty with an indigenous touch. Mahoora offer Luxury and Premium mobile tented camping safaris making this camping experience affordable for all. Mahoora offers one-night stays in the parks which is useful when trying to keep down costs, but Red Dot recommends a minimum two-night stay inorder to gain fully from this wonderful wildlife camping experience. Mahoora Luxury and Premium camping is booked on an all inclusive rate and includes all meals, accommodation, unlimited local alcoholic beverages as well as tea and coffee, and two game drives per day accompanied by a Naturalist.

Mahoora follows a strict environmental and social sustainability policy that is aimed at reducing the carbon footprint. A `Pack in Pack out’ policy is followed with regards to camping where the tents and other facilities are set-up just prior to your arrival and removed completely following your departure thereby minimizing the impact on the environment. Mahoora also contributes 1% of their revenue to the Sri Lanka Wilderness Foundation that works towards minimizing the human leopard conflict in the border villages. Much is also done towards the development of local village communities.

Accommodation
Mahoora offers well equipped Luxury and Premium safari camps. Accommodation tents are situated in scenic locations deep within the jungles overlooking rivers. Guests are provided with a fresh fruit basket, umbrella and slippers on arrival. The Mahoora tents are handmade locally and are well designed.

Mahoora Luxury Camps: consists of spacious tents which are 15 ft x 12 ft in size. Each tent has an attached toilet and small verandah. The entire tent, including the washroom, is equipped with a wall-to-wall carpet and the windows are dressed with curtaining to create more privacy. The Mahoora Luxury tents are furnished with twin raised beds with six inch mattresses, baggage rack, area to hang clothes, chair and coffee table. The verandah has two foldable chairs. The attached toilet has pipe born water, h/w shower, wash basin, and w/c. See photographs 1-9 of the above photo gallery.

Mahoora Premium Camps: These camps consist of smaller tents which are 16 ft x 8 ft in size. Each tent has a sleeping area and verandah. Interiors are furnished with twin raised beds with six inch mattress, coffee table and two foldable arm chairs. Flushable toilet and washing facilities with pipe born water is shared by guests. Facilities
Meals at all Mahoora camps are prepared on site in a tented, fully equipped kitchen with cooling and freezing facilities. All meals are freshly prepared and served in magical settings overlooking a river, or the jungles with the surroundings lit up with hurricane lamps and lanterns. At night, the entire Mahoora campsite is lit with candles, lanterns, and a campfire. Security and first aid is ensured at the campsites by the Eco Team staff. Laptop and digital camera charging facilities are available at the campsites.

Mahoora Luxury Camps: On one night of your stay, the Mahoora Luxury camps offer a special seven course dinner. Unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are served out of a well-stocked bar for those taking the luxury package. BBQs are also served and there is an a la carte menu for those wishing order any extra snacks.

Mahoora Premium Camps: a special dinner with a five course menu is on offer at the Mahoora Premium camps. BBQs are also served and there is an a la carte menu for those wishing order any extra snacks. For game drives, Mahoora uses Land Rover Defenders and modified pick-up trucks that are well geared to handle the rough terrain, comfortable and provide for your safely. A picnic basket and chilled beverages are provided for guests to enjoy enroute. A qualified Mahoora Naturalist and a Ranger from the Wildlife Department accompanies guests on their game drives enabling guests to gain first-hand knowledge about the environment, flora and fauna.

The safari parks:

Uda Walawe National Park
in Sri Lanka's south-central sector, is the area which most resembles an African game park. Wildlife reports say there are about 500 elephants in the park and they often roam in herds of up to 100.

Yala National Park
with a total protected area of 126,768 hectares, is one of the best places to see a wide variety of Sri Lankan wildlife because of its scrub plains, lagoons and rocky sections. Boasting one of the world's densest leopard populations, Yala also has elephants, sloth bears, sambar deer, spotted deer, wild boar, crocodiles, monkeys and buffalos and numerous species of birds.

Wasgomuwa National Park
islocated within the Central and North Central provinces and covers an area of approximately 39,000 hectares. Famous for the elephants frequenting the Mahaweli River, which runs along one of the boundaries of the park, Wasgomuwa is also home to numerous other animals including sloth bear, sambur, spotted and barking deer, wild boar, the purple-faced leaf monkey, and 143 species of birds.

Minneriya National Park covers 8,890 hectares and is situated in the centre of the Cultural Triangle. The dry season, from June to September, is the best time to visit when it is possible to see herds of up to 150 elephants feeding and washing by the Minneriya tank.

Sinharaja Tropical Rainforest is a UNESCO International Man and Biosphere Reserve and is a World Heritage Site. The forest houses an incredible array of flora and fauna including a 73 endemic species of birds, butterflies, fish, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, making it a world famous hotspot for biodiversity.

Knuckles Mountain Range is located within the district of Kandy and Matale in central Sri Lanka. The Knuckles mountain range consists of five mountain peaks and several other smaller peaks. With the highest point about 6,000 ft above sea level the Knuckles span an extensive region covering 155 sq. km of the island. A wide variety of rare and endemic flora and fauna makes this wilderness area a storehouse of rich biodiversity.

Hortain Plains National Park is an undulating 2000m high plateau 28km south of Nuwara Eliya. The grassy plains, which are interspersed with small patches of forest, are home to leopards, sambur, deer, bear, monkeys and a rich array of birds, including some endemic species.

Wilpattu National Park is located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo), spanning an area that runs inland from the northwest coast towards the ancient capital of Anuradhapura (50 km to the east of the park). Covering an impressive 425 sq miles, the park is Sri Lanka’s largest. Having reopened in 2010 it is now an increasingly popular eco-tourism destination.

Gal Oya National Park lies in the southeast of the island and to the west of Ampara. The 25,900 hectare park has about 32 species of mammals including common langur, endemic toque macaque, leopard, sloth bear, elephant, wild boar, water buffalo and 3 species of deer. For birding enthusiasts, approximately 150 of Sri Lanka’s 430 species of birds have been observed in this region.
