Selangor Cricket Club: The club was founded as the Selangor Club in 1884 as a meeting point for learned and eminent members of British colonial society. The club is situated next to the Dataran Merdeka, or Independence Square, padang (field). It hosted a tri-nations tournament in 2006 between Australia, the West Indies and India and staged the 2007 U19 World Cup and continues to host many other tournaments. It was here that Malaysia first defeated the Australians by 39 runs in 1927. It was also on this ground that Gary Sobers, playing for a Commonwealth XI in March 1964 was bowled first ball by Alex Delikan. The RSC is a historic landmark as this was the venue where the Malaysian flag was raised at midnight August 30, 1957, on the declaration of Malaysia as a sovereign nation.Penang Sports Club: Penang - the Pearl of the Orient and the oldest British settlement in Malaysia. Visits include the Khoo Kongsi (Dragon Mountain Hall) clan house, which attempts to capture the splendour of an Imperial palace, the historical Fort Cornwallis and the Thai temple of Wat Chayamangkalaram. The Penang Sports Club started as the Penang Cricket Club at the Esplanade in the early 1900’s. This club was a popular meeting place for the European community, especially cricket enthusiasts. It recently hosted some matches of the ICC under 19 world cup among other international tournaments. The present-day Penang Sports Club comprises the Club’s old building which has been renovated, and the two new wings to cater for the increasing number of its members through the years.
