'....Prepare to step back in time; at the far end a waterfalls spills into a gorge, down-river is a natural spa. Explore the 60 acres of Healing Garden and discover lotus ponds, healing pavilions, meditation pavilions, and the Galapita Lake. The food is organic, cooked Sri Lankan style; electricity is only now coming to this part of the country….you could also take a tyre-tube ride down the river to the village of Demodera, two hours away. Just make sure you have your seat belt on. In the surrounding hills, wild boar and an occasional sloth bear have been spotted. Elephants visit daily….Peacocks caterwaul at night'
Melanie Brehaut, Travel Sri Lanka, Vol 3 No 12
'Galapita is so special it almost seems a shame to share the secret among too many people. But do visit; bring the family or a small group of friends. Enjoy all of its classy simplicities and I’m pretty sure you’ll find the journey to leave for home, crossing back across the river, perhaps the most difficult to make.'
Edward Aves, Footprint Sri Lanka, Fourth Edition
'Perched on rocks, four open-sided huts on stilts with own washing area, idyllic setting by ganga (river) with natural pool and waterfall…..activities include cycling, bird-watching and river-rafting by tyre tube'
Channa Daswatte, Sri Lanka Style – Tropical Design & Architecture, 2006, pp 64
'A driftwood table is the centrepiece of the main sitting area, a wonderful setting for resting, talking and savouring nature. Mud and cow dung floors, moulded into platforms for seating and covered with mats and colourful cushions, meld with the surrounding landscape, making it hard to distinguish between interior and exterior. The old Dutch planter’s chairs add a touch of luxury'
Customer Feedback
Aug 03, 2008 : This was a beautiful place but it seems to be loosing its sparkle despite the best efforts of Suresh who was brilliant. The owners need to take more pride in this place.

Mar 21, 2008 : Delicious food, but not enough variety. We arrived after dark and no one was there who spoke English to welcome us. Luckily we had Herman to interpret. Apart from one guy, no body helped us to carry our suitcases to the house which we felt very long.

Aug 29, 2007 : We were greeted with apathy. Indifferent hosts. No privacy. Left in disgust.
VK – Coventry, UK
Mar 24, 2007 : Thank-you for the upgrade to the individual "house." This really was out of this world and we felt extremely relaxed.
AJ – London, UK
Mar 10, 2007 : We had a difficult first few hours at Galapita. Our room was very basic. Not what we had imagined. But we were moved to the villa which was fantastic.
ET – London, UK
Mar 04, 2007 : Complete contrast to Tea Trails but equally amazing. This eco lodge offered a glimpse of the simple life.
SM – Westbury, UK
Mar 02, 2007 : An exquisite location for relaxation. Good fun swimming in the river. Food and drink pricing is a complete mystery and as many meals are shared communication as to meal timings could be better.
TW – Uxbridge, UK
Feb 26, 2007 : Would have liked to have been told about available activities on arrival, but otherwise very relaxing stay and would recommend it. Fabulous massage.
LB – Guiseley, UK
Feb 25, 2007 : Loved it. Better than expected, food was good too.

Dec 02, 2006 : A lovely set-up. Food was great and there was lots of it. Very unique and worthwhile, even though 1.5 hrs drive to Yala game park.
MG – Australia
Sep 01, 2006 : Galapita was magic with very good food. We enjoyed staying at the eco lodge. I think that the villa is the best accommodation there. The gentleman running it was very nice but, for us, too talkative and keen to sell us jewellery. We had our best breakfast there. Loved the headlight reading lamps and the silence.
