Location
The Teak House is situated two miles west of Tangalle on a palm-strewn hillside which runs down to the beautiful and largely deserted beach of Seenimodera (Sugar Bay). Renowned as one of the Sri Lanka’s most picturesque and unspoilt sandy beaches, Seenimodera offers safe swimming all year round. Stroll across to neighbouring Mahawella beach, a horseshoe shaped bay of over 3 km, long celebrated by CN Traveller magazine. Tangalle, a truly escapist location and one of the most picturesque spots in the deep south, is about one and a half hours from Galle and a further two and a half hours to Yala. Colombo to Tangalle is 195km and driving directly from the airport should take around five hours. Tangalle is an ideal location for breaking a journey from the southern highlands to the Galle coast.
Introduction
Nestled on a hilltop in the midst of a lush, tropical garden and immaculately kept coconut plantation, The Teak House is one of Sri Lanka's South Coast’s most romantic and serene villa hideaways. If you are seeking complete privacy or even solitude within moments of an unspoilt Indian Ocean beach, The Teak House offers comfort and privacy in equal measure. Minutes from the Seenimodera coastline, the two-bedroom Teak House is a delightful teak villa with a natural and relaxing atmosphere. Benefiting from a constant breeze from the ocean below, the property is unpretentious yet extremely comfortable and welcoming. Planted with an exotic collection of wonderful tropical flora, The Teak House garden has become a haven for a stunning collection of tropical birds. Woodpecker, peacocks, birds of paradise, kingfisher and the busy ‘chit chat’ birds luxuriate in its lush profusion. Sea eagles hover above and, as dusk falls and a dark tropical night descends, fireflies light up the sky. It is a good-value property well-suited for romantic getaways (ideal for a honeymoon or two couples) and small families or groups of friends.

Accommodation
There are two spacious en suite bedrooms that are well furnished and tastefully decorated. The bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
The two bedrooms are separated with an open-plan sitting, dining and kitchen area, which looks down through a small forest of coconut trees and brilliantly colourful tropical garden to the Seenimodera coastline beyond. There is a large garden area and good views (although slightly obstructed by a fence) down to the bay, a one-minute stroll away. Roshan, the house boy, will do all your shopping and cooking. An accomplished chef, he will prepare the most delicious Sri Lankan curries and a wide range of Thai and international dishes. Fresh fish is delivered every day, straight from the beach, and fresh mussels are plucked from the outlying rocks by The Teak House’s very own boat. The Teak House is a couple of minutes away from the beach. There is no swimming pool. Amanwella, perhaps the most upmarket boutique hotel on the island, is close by if you pine for a lavish dinner or some pampering in their spa. There are other simpler beachside eating-out options in the area.
Excursions
Day trips to Yala National Park, Sinharaja Rainforest and Uda Walawe National Park can be arranged. Visit Rekuwa, a small fishing village near Tangalle where a fascinating Marine Turtle conservation project is established. Tangalle and the surrounding areas are renowned for its superb unspoiled and undeveloped beaches. Based at Mirissa Harbour, Mirissa Water Sports offers several activities including whale watching, snorkelling, sailing, river trips, and sea kayaking. Mirissa Water Sports is a charitable organization which helps to generate employment for the youth from the tsunami-affected coastal areas. We also recommend a visit to the historic city of Galle and its 17th century Dutch Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the old Fort, a small walled city with about 300 homes and an old-world feel, still remains with its well-preserved bastions, public buildings, churches, lighthouse and a maze of narrow streets.
