Fort House is a four-bedroom villa with a mix of modern and old world charm located in the heart of Galle’s historic 17C Dutch Fort. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take up to two hours travelling via the Southern highway. Avoid road travel and take the Air Taxi and fly to Koggala, which is a 20-minutes drive to Galle Fort.
Introduction
The Fort House was originally built in the early 1800s and belonged to a Galle merchant. This 200-year-old property has undergone a complete transformation and is a bright and airy villa which is ideal for a family holiday. Many of the original architectural features of archways, high roofs, and courtyards have been retained. Interiors consist have whitewashed walls decorated with local art, cooling cement floors, and furniture that is an eclectic mix of the old and the new. A cool, green-sided pool in the courtyard provides the focal point to this stylish house whilst the west-facing roof terrace offers a magnificent view over the Dutch ramparts. Fort House is rented on a villa only basis and can accommodate up to eight guests.

Accommodation
Of the four bedrooms, one double bedroom is located on the ground floor with swimming pool and courtyard views; and three bedrooms (two doubles and one twin room) are located on the upper floor. All bedrooms are comfortably furnished and have a/c and overhead fans.
Facilities
There are plenty of spaces for lounging including a living room with comfortable sofas and the roof terrace with views across the clay tiled roofs of the Galle Fort. Meals are served in the dining room furnished with a 10-seater teak table or at the roof top. Other villa facilities include a study/reading area equipped with wifi internet, satellite TV/DVD; a small swimming pool located in the courtyard, and a fully-equipped kitchen. Discuss your meal preferences with the in-house cook who will prepare your meals and do the grocery shopping for you. There is also a housekeeper who comes in daily.
Excursions
Galle Fort is like nowhere else in Sri Lanka. Enter through the 'new' English gate or the 'old' Dutch gate and enter a different country. The renovated Dutch architecture of shops, hotels and private houses is a dominant feature the narrow streets. Largely built by the Dutch during the 18th Century the Fort is another of Sri Lanka's World Heritage sites. The Ramparts provide an excellent vantage point to capture the atmosphere of an international test match. Sunbathing beaches of the Galle coast are a short tuk-tuk drive away.
