Location
The Asian Jewel, named after a species of dragon fly, is a homely 5 roomed hotel located in a beautiful setting overlooking the Hikkaduwa Lagoon just 2 kms inland from the west coast. Situated amidst paddy fields, mangroves and rural village life, Asian Jewel is a short trishaw ride away from the chilled-out coastal resort of Hikkaduwa. The drive from Colombo is about three hours and the historic city of Galle is just 30 minutes away.
Introduction
This comfortable and well-run hotel is the holiday home of its British owner's that live on the premises much of the year. The property overlooks Hikkaduwa Lagoon, which is fed by freshwater streams and the Indian Ocean, creating a unique eco system that attracts many species of birds. Asian Jewel offers peaceful and relaxing surroundings whilst being close enough to enjoy the sun and surf of the comparatively vibrant town of Hikkaduwa.

Accommodation
Five a/c bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and a private balcony overlooking the lagoon. The rooms consist of one family suite which can accommodate four adults within two rooms that share a central bathroom; one luxury suite with a canopied four-poster bed and ensuite bathroom with twin vanities and bath; and three deluxe rooms with twin or double beds and ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold shower, sink, w/c. All rooms have TV and DVD player and mini bar.
Facilities
The ground floor consists of the reception and verandah dining area. The landscaped garden area has a swimming pool with sun loungers. Sri Lankan rice and curries as well as western dishes are supervised by the owner. Meals are prepared using fresh vegetables, meats and seafood purchased locally from Hikkaduwa. Other facilities include a well-stocked DVD and book library, internet facilities, IDD and hotel trishaw.
Excursions
Hikkaduwa has some of the best surfing beaches and a range of water sports. Bentota's lagoon is ideal for jet skiing, water skiing, and boat trips along the river. Visit the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project. These coastal towns and villages also share a vibrant cultural heritage including folklore, music, and dance forms. Many temples, kovils, churches, and mosques are situated along the coast. Cottage industries such as basket weaving, mask carving, and small shops selling Dutch antiques - furniture, lamps and ornaments, makes for interesting shopping. The historic town of Galle, with its 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site, is a short drive from Hikkaduwa.
