Bentota Beach is a sprawling beachside hotel that also fronts the scenic Bentota River. This west coast town of Bentota is located about two hours south of Colombo and an hour south of the historic town of Galle. The drive from the international airport will take up to three hours.
Introduction
Having been built under the instruction of the renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, this is a well-designed hotel that is strong in every department. It is a massive property, with 133 bedrooms, three pools, two restaurants, five or six shops and an array of tiered terraces overlooking a vast playing area which leads down to the river and the Indian Ocean. The food and service is excellent here, and the hotel is particularly proud (and justifiably so) of its sports complex and entertainment schemes, which offer a comprehensive range of games and activities to keep everyone amused. Whether joining in the fun or looking on from one of the terraces, parents can rest assured that their children are being well looked after and have plenty to do.

Accommodation
There are 130 Standard and Deluxe Rooms and three suites all with private balconies and ensuite bathrooms.

Standard and Deluxe Rooms: the rooms in the south wing have sea views and those in the north wing have beautiful views of the Bentota River. In-room facilities include a/c, overhead fans, satellite TV, IDD telephone, tea/coffee facility, mini-bar and safety deposit box. The Deluxe rooms also have wifi facility and pillow menu.

Suites: the three suites are spacious and consist of a separate bedroom and living area and two balconies. In addition to the standard facilities, the suites have a bar counter, DVD player, wifi facility and pillow menu.
Facilities
There are two restaurants, one mid-range buffet-style dining room which is situated upstairs and another a la carte restaurant which is expensive but very good. The Azmaara Spa situated between the Bentota River and the sea, offers relaxing body massages and beauty treatments within a tranquil setting.

In the vast grounds at the back of the property, there is an endless list of things to do from volley-ball, basket-ball, climbing frames, gymnasium, water-polo, badminton and elephant rides to water-sports on the lagoon such as banana-boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, diving, windsurfing and wave boarding. Elsewhere you can also play table-tennis, pool and snooker. In the evenings there is also an abundance of entertainment such as dancing in the moonlight at the open-air discotheque, singing along at karaoke or winding down in front of a feature film shown on a giant screen. In the arcade downstairs there is a hair-dressing salon as well as shops selling jewellery, gifts, books, ornaments and saris. There is also room service, laundry service, and doctor-on-call. A baby sitter can be arranged with prior notice.
Excursions
Visit the nearby Lunuganga - a garden retreat that was created by Sri Lanka's iconic architect, Geoffrey Bawa. Go out to sea in a catamaran with the fisherman or take a boat ride along the tranquil Madu River past quaint rural villages, en route, visit the local markets, temples & craft and antique shops. Visit Kosgoda's Marine Turtle hatchery - a valuable conservation project that protects the endangered Marine Turtles of Sri Lanka. One hour's drive will take you to the historic town of Galle and the 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site. Explore Galle Fort's narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings which are still in use, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the lighthouse, and a growing collection of art galleries and several boutique hotels.
