Location
Hikkaduwa lies at the heart of the palm-fringed West coast, conveniently placed for the historic town of Galle. This small beach resort sprang to prominence as a favourite hippy haunt on the Sixties backpacker trail. It retains a youthful, informal feel, with a good scattering of beachside bars (particularly lively at weekends) and great-value fish restaurants. Cinnamon Gardens, more accurately, lies in Thiranagama, half a mile south. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort is a 15 minutes drive. The journey from Colombo's International Airport will take approximately 4 hours.
Introduction
We have tramped up the Hikkaduwa strip countless times and have found no budget property more inviting than this. Cinnamon Gardens has begun to answer Hikkaduwa's need for updated facilities. Completed in 2003, its enthusiastic English owners, perhaps influenced by time spent on the Costa del Sol, have brought a bright and sociable feel to an old colonial property, which now boasts bright yellow pillars and paintwork, tiled floors and terracotta tiled roofs. Wonderful value.

Cinnamon Gardens is a 12-room property, all with comfortable beds and attached bathrooms with solar powered h/w showers, wash basin, and w/c. Rates shown are for a/c rooms. Lower rates available for non/ac. All rooms are fitted with overhead ceiling fans.
Facilities
Cinnamon Gardens has satellite TV in a bar that is fast becoming a focal point in town for sports lovers. Food is predominantly Western, unfussy and of high standard. There is a bar in the restaurant and another small beach bar in the small, well-kept gardens. The hotel lies alongside an excellent, uncrowded stretch of beach. No swimming pool.
Excursions
Several water sports are on offer including deep sea fishing, catamaran and boat rides, surfing, and snorkeling in Unawatuna and Mirissa. High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple. With beautiful views stretching out over the Indian Ocean a walk around the headland near the temple is very special. Famed for the natural medicinal herbs nearby you will walk through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach' - a little known and secluded beach. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
