The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
Dalmanuta values guests just seeking to relax and perhaps enjoy a few relaxing therapies -- it can provide, but does not insist upon, a comprehensive Ayurvedic programme. The tranquil Garden of Healing consists of two small islands which may be used for meditation, yoga or merely a relaxed stroll. Guest accommodation consists of nine individual bungalows, while the restaurant is at the back of the property and extends up to the Bentota River. Indulge in a relaxing Ayurvedic massage, relax by the poolside, feast on fresh seafood by the river bank, or travel by boat along the tranquil Bentota River until you reach the sea and, once there, spend the rest of the day on a sun-kissed beach.
Nine spacious bungalows enjoy good levels of privacy and each have a private porch and small garden. Interiors are modern and gleaming and have hi-tech comforts to go with the ancient practice of Ayurveda, including TV, DVD player and minibar. Comfortable double beds are fitted with mosquito netting. Additional beds can be fitted in the lounge area on request. The lounge area has cane chairs and a writing desk. The main reception has an extensive selection of movies for guests to use. The ensuite bathrooms have twin vanities and a bathtub or ‘massage’ shower.
The Ayurvedic wellness centre at Dalmanuta is overlooked by an experienced Ayurvedic physician who also has her private medical practice nearby in the village. Relaxing massages, herbal baths and body wraps take place in a separate area of the gardens in cooling wattle-and-daub huts with thatched roofs. Medicinal plants used for some of the therapies are grown in the tranquil medicinal gardens where hours can be spent walking past ponds and waterways. A swimming pool and Jacuzzi is located in the front garden. Dalmanuta's informal open-sided riverside restaurant is famous for its seafood, attracting regulars who come to feast on fresh lobster, prawns and crab. Sri Lankan and Western cuisine is served here, as well as alcoholic beverages. The owners encourage village crafts and several artisans including a potter, wood carver, artist, and village tailor have their workshops in rudimentary huts within the premises allowing guests to learn of local crafts as well as purchase items made to order.
Dalmanuta is a secluded holiday retreat, restaurant and Ayurvedic spa that sits on the banks of the Bentota River, only 3km from the west-coast holiday town of Bentota. The town's broad, sandy beaches are easily accessed along the river using Dalmanuta's own boats. The journey to Dalmanuta from Colombo's international airport will take about 2.5 hours.
