Sri Lankan cuisine is very distinctive, an intriguing combination of flavours and aromas influenced by the island’s striking ethnic diversity and centuries of interaction with outside settles, from the early Arab traders to European colonisers. This Colombo cooking class is led by a Sri Lankan female entrepreneur who set up her successful food-based business nearly 30 years ago. Drawing inspiration from her Malay heritage and the Sinhalese and Tamil culinary traditions found throughout the island, your host has created a range of recipes for rice, curries, salads and sambols, all of which have distinguished – and delicious – tastes and colours.
This experience takes place at your host’s comfortable home on the outskirts of Colombo, on the terrace so that visitors can enjoy a refreshing cool breeze whilst cooking. Watch her detailed demonstrations – and join in yourself! – of how to make her no-fuss dishes or join in and have more of a hands on cooking experience. You will also be provided with a recipe leaflet and samples of spices so that you can try making these dishes at home. After the class, sit down together and enjoy a mouth-watering meal – definitely one of the best that you will have in Sri Lanka.
