63 Pedlar Street was one of the first houses to be renovated in Sri Lanka’s Galle Fort, at the turn of the century, and an exciting new era was set in motion. This 250-year-old Dutch house that has been superbly restored with influence from Morocco. The combination of a reflective pool, high ceilings, and the sea breeze ensures the whole house is comparatively cool.

Built in the early 1800s this family home, originally occupied by a merchant and his mistress, has recently undergone a complete transformation courtesy of its Hong Kong-based owners. One of the oldest houses inside the Fort, Palm Villa has been restored with care to the style of the early 1700s. A lot of the original timber, including antique doors and windows, have been preserved. In contrast, the interiors are light and furnished with modern sofas, leather chairs, and contemporary art. Thambili, named after the giant coconut tree which stands in its garden, is a three-storey villa, nicely positioned on the edge of the Galle Fort coastline and within a short walk of the historic sites and restaurants.
