Location
Aigburth Manor, a colonial bungalow built in 1925, is situated 3,000 ft above sea level in the midst of a 900-acre tea plantation. It nestles in the hills of Rakwana on the fringes of Sinharaja Rainforest. A winding and narrow roadway up testing hairpin bends takes you to the bungalow which has panoramic views of Sinharaja forest and the Deniyaya and Embilipitiya mountains. The bungalow is 144 km from Colombo and is bests accessed via Ratnapura or en route from the south coast. It is a perfect option for those people staying in the south who do not have time to travel to the central highlands.
Introduction
Originally built by an English Planter, this stone house has been fully refurbished, retaining its old world charm. Only one booking at a time is taken to ensure guests have the entire bungalow to themselves. Its comfortable and spacious bedrooms, extensive gardens with a swimming pool, magnificent views, interesting location near the south coast and Sinharaja, and the cool climate all combine to make Aigburth Manor an inviting property for families or friends.

Accommodation

Facilities
There is a spacious lounge with a fireplace and dining room with a 14-seat table. For a rainy day, there are plenty of books and indoor board games. Musicians will enjoy the piano and guitar. The extensive gardens are ideal for a friendly game of cricket or just relaxing by the pool, which is filled from natural springs. Children will enjoy the swings. Both Western dishes and Sri Lankan rice and curry are served at Aigburth. Discuss your choice of menu with the in-house cook who will prepare delicious meals using fresh vegetables from the garden or purchased daily from the local market. Aigburth Manor is staffed with a manager, cook and housekeeper, all of whom speak English.
Excursions
Explore the surrounding tea plantation with a final stop at the Aigburth Tea Factory where the Manager will provide insight into the manufacturing process as well as give you an opportunity to taste the different grades of tea produced here. Hikers and mountain bike enthusiasts can explore the beautiful countryside through the tea estates and the ten hairpin bends that lead to the bungalow (bikes are available at the bungalow). Birders will enjoy the numerous species of birds that are found in the garden and the surrounding area. The south eastern gates to the Sinharaja Rain forest, a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site, are about an hour’s journey and will require an entire morning. For all your excursions, the Aigburth Manor staff can pack a picnic lunch with your choice of food and beverages.
