Lagoon Paradise is a ten-room guest house occupying a scenic location near Tangalle where the Rekuwa lagoon meets the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Tangalle is situated two hours from the historic city of Galle and the drive from Colombo’s international airport will take up to seven hours.
Introduction
Lagoon Paradise is spread over a three-acre estate, scattered with coconut palm, mangroves and flowering plants, which leads to the Rekuwa Lagoon and the sea beyond. Accommodation is basic but functional and well-maintained. Go on a canoe ride along the Rekuwa lagoon, sit on the beach late at night and observe giant Marine Turtles come ashore to nest, or just relax in the privacy of your own balcony. Rekuwa is known for the Marine Turtle Conservation project that helps to preserve these endangered species and Lagoon Paradise assists in this noble effort. Lagoon Paradise was badly hit by the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. It is now rebuilt minus the cabana rooms on the beach. Throughout difficult times, this homely guest house has made an effort to maintain high standards and a good service.

Accommodation
There are 10 double rooms with private balconies opening out to the leafy gardens. Rooms are basic and are furnished with single or double beds fitted with mosquito netting and overhead ceiling fans. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
There is a restaurant and bar located by the lagoon serving mainly Sri Lankan cuisine. Seafood, including crab, prawns and fish, is purchased directly from the local fisherman and prepared to your liking. A limited variety of alcoholic beverages are on offer. Canoes are available for boating down the lagoon. The hotel has built a small overhead bridge across the lagoon which takes you to secluded beaches. The bay is good for swimming during the season from November to April.
Excursions
Sri Lanka’s picturesque south coast beaches of Tangalle, Dickwella, and Weligama offer swimming, snorkelling, surfing and diving. Mirissa Water Sports offers activities including whale and dolphin watching, snorkelling, sailing, river trips, and sea kayaking. Mirissa Water Sports is a charitable organization helping to generate employment for the youth from the tsunami-affected coastal areas. Visit the fishing village of Rekuwa situated walking distance to Lagoon Paradise and learn of the fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project which is helping to save this endangered species. The nearby Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary and Ussangoda can be utterly rewarding for bird watching with numerous species of endemic and migrant birds. Yala National Park, one of the largest national parks in the island where elephant and leopard can be seen, a short 90-minute drive away. Visit the ancient Mulgirigala temple in Tangalle which is perched on an enormous boulder more than 200m high and dates back almost 2,000 years. The serene white Dagoba stands at the peak of the rock with magnificent coastal views.
