Kikili is a charming, one-bedroom beach villa located in the south coastal fishing village of Thalpe, just 10 minutes drive from the historic city of Galle. This is an ideal destination from which to experience the beautiful southern beaches and the cultural heritage. The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take about four hours - or take the Air Taxi and fly to Koggala, which is a 15 minute drive to the villa.
Introduction
Kikili Beach is set on a quiet stretch of beach, with the turquoise seas at your feet. Located at the end of a narrow lane, this is a romantic stone cottage by the sea. Owned by Henri Tatham, the charismatic manager of The Sun House in Galle, Kikili is a compact house with a small living room, bedroom and verandah leading to the garden and sea beyond. Interiors are well equipped with plenty of books and chilled out sofas and decorated with bright colours and whimsical touches that add character. Laze by the pool side or in the garden pavilion and take in the spectacular sun sets. Kikili Beach is ideal for young couples seeking a romantic beach escape and for those wanting to dip in and out of Galle’s bohemian social scene.

Accommodation
Kikili consists of one a/c bedroom furnished with a king-size four-poster bed. The bedroom windows open out to the garden and sea views. Ensuite bathroom has h/w shower.
Facilities
The small living room opens out to a spacious verandah, garden and the sea. The living room is equipped with a sofa, library with interesting titles, a games cupboard, fridge and bar. The verandah has a six seater dining table and a sitting area with a day bed. The garden has sun lounges and a pavilion with large floor cushions where hours can be spent reading, sleeping or even having a massage. Meals are served on the verandah or in the garden under the stars. Kikili Beach has a small kitchenette equipped with a fridge and cooker, crockery and cutlery. Guests are welcome to prepare their own meals or have the in-house cook prepare meals for you. The villa is staffed with a full time cook/house boy who is very helpful and will take you to the local market to purchase fresh seafood, fruit and vegetables.
Excursions
Although Kikili has direct access to the beach, for safe swimming a short walk along the sandy beach takes you to a reef protected lagoon. Swimming and surfing is ideal at Unawatuna, laden with rustic beach bars and restaurants. Wijeya Beach, a popular beach side restaurant serving fusion cuisine, is also located nearby. The south of Sri Lanka beyond Dondra is considered one of the best locations in the world for spotting blue whales, sperm whales and spinner dolphins. Whale watching excursions into the deep seas is organised by Mirissa Water Sports during the season from December to April when the seas are calm. We also recommend a visit to Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site and a melting pot of cultural influences. With its well-preserved ramparts overlooking the cricket stadium, the grand old lighthouse staring into the Indian Ocean, the narrow streets, interesting restaurants and boutique hotels full of character, Galle Fort deserves hours of exploration.
