Location
Kosgoda Beach Hotel enjoys a favoured location on a picturesque stretch of the turtle beach on Sri Lanka's west coast, where Marine Turtles regularly come ashore on this near-deserted stretch of coastline to lay their eggs. The hotel is surrounded on three sides by the sea and lagoon, giving it one of the most secluded aspects on the west coast. Kosgoda lies midway between the livelier beach villages of Bentota and Hikkaduwa, with Colombo about two-and-a-half hours to the north.
Introduction
If you are looking for a tranquil mid-range beach hotel, offering surprisingly good rooms and minimal disturbance, then Kosgoda Beach might be your perfect choice. Life is uncomplicated here as you rest under swaying palms by the hotel's large outdoor swimming pool - not yearning for nearby beach bars or nightlife, but whiling away the hours in a serene and informal atmosphere. The hotel's situation on a five-acre land spit meant that it suffered particularly badly in the 2004 tsunami, but it has been restored to its former glory. Kosgoda Beach has a restful, uncluttered feel, demanding only that you surrender to its simple pleasures.

Accommodation
The 42 rooms include one suite, 14 two-storey duplex rooms, and 27 standard villas. The duplex rooms are particularly recommended, offering spacious and appealing accommodation of rare quality among 3-star hotels. All rooms have a/c and fans, excellent open-air showers, phone, satellite TV, in-room safe and all open onto a private terrace or balcony.
Facilities
There is an open-air poolside restaurant and an a/c bar. The swimming pool is one of the largest on the west coast for this class of hotel and has a safe shallow end for infants. A small gymnasium has basic facilities and a good a/c pool room overlooks the swimming pool. Other facilities include hard-surface tennis court, laundry, small business centre, various indoor games, and an Ayurvedic centre offering a range of relaxing therapies.
Excursions
Go out to sea in a catamaran with the fisherman or take a boat ride along the tranquil Madu River past quaint rural villages, en route, visit the local markets, temples & craft and antique shops. Visit Kosgoda's Marine Turtle hatchery - a valuable conservation project that protects the endangered Marine Turtles of Sri Lanka. Globally, all seven species of marine turtles existing are endangered. Out of these seven, five species of sea turtles come ashore to nest in Sri Lanka. The process of marine turtles nesting, hatchlings being born, and swimming back to sea is an ancient and phenomenal ritual that is fascinating to observe. Visit Lunuganga, a garden retreat that was originally an old rubber plantation that Geoffrey Bawa, Sri Lanka's most famous architect, transformed into a haven of peace.
