'Yala Village offers posh accommodation amid the sand dunes. Rooms are in individual bungalows, which come with satellite TV, fridge and elephant bedspreads. Talking of elephants, they often pass through the lodge grounds at night and their not-so-soft foot falls are likely to break into your dreams.'
Sarasi Wijeratne, Travel Sri Lanka, Vol 4 no 4
'As we walk along the dusty path leading to the hotel there is already lots to see: an abundance of wild boar scavenging for food, a lone mongoose rushing around, and flocks of waders cooling off at the tank nearby……. Expect to see many more animals at the hotel….Regrettably I did not meet Gemuni, the wild elephant known for his forays into the hotel’s kitchen…..When you stay at Yala Village Hotel you leave behind contemporary urban chaos and surrender yourself to nature'

Aug 10, 2009 : Great location, peaceful and relaxing. Service variable – food pretty basic, not very fresh

Jul 28, 2009 : Well worth a visit. It was unfortunate that they were repairing the view point at the time of our visit. Views fantastic.

Jun 10, 2008 : Great location. Although didn’t have much time to really appreciate it as I arrived late in the night and left after safari

Apr 06, 2008 : : A very unusual and friendly place to stay. Excellently placed for the amazing safaris at the Yala National Park.
AW – Manchester
Mar 15, 2008 : This was simple, functional accommodation and was presently satisfactory for the purpose.
CM – Nottingham
Aug 19, 2007 : The evening game drive was spoiled by the number of jeeps. The early morning one (we opted for an extra one) was great. Can I suggest that you publish estimated driving times in your itineraries. We would have been less ambitious in our itineraries with children.

Aug 16, 2007 : The road to Yala Village is a nightmare of pot holes but the place itself is excellent. The wildlife is all around. A great place to stay.
HF – Leicester,
Jul 29, 2007 : This place is something very special. The location in the jungle has given the family wonderful experiences.

Mar 31, 2007 : Wonderful place to stay

Feb 09, 2007 : The only hotel we have stayed at in the world where the mini-bar was locked the night before our departure -- ridiculous! Otherwise, great location and food experience.

Jan 05, 2007 : We hated our stay here. It felt like a prison and we would not come back. Most guests are out on early-morning safaris and get back at 10am, but you have to be out of the restaurant by 10.30 which doesn’t give enough time.
PH – Cambridge
Sep 01, 2006 : The children enjoyed the a/c and the TV. I thought that the concept of having people drive you to the restaurant a bit bizarre until I saw the boars wandering near our room. Swimming in the pool after dark is fun.
BQ – London 01/09/06
Aug 24, 2006 : More a 3-star hotel, than 4 or 5, but the leopards were 5-star!
JE – Bishop Auckland,
Jul 26, 2006 : We loved Yala Village for its eco-friendly beautiful rooms and the observation deck. The pool and the food were great too. It was good fun to be surrounded by the wildlife.
SG – Bucks
Jun 29, 2006 : Yala Village was nice - the only reason we would not rate it as highly as the above is that little things irritated. But as they are structural in nature (sound proofing etc) there is also probably nothing one can do.
