Citrus Hikkaduwa is a mid-range beach hotel set on a two acre palm fringed property in the coastal town of Hikkaduwa on the West Coast. Hikkaduwa lies 140 kms south of Colombo’s international airport and will take about two hours to reach via the Southern highway. The historic city of Galle is 45 minutes away.
Introduction
Citrus Hikkaduwa, formerly Amaya Reef, is now in the hands of it’s new owners and was reopened in December 2011 after a complete refurbishment. The familiar saffron coloured walls are now replaced with white washed exteriors and bright and airy interiors. A newly built wing houses 40 Deluxe rooms while 50 more rooms are housed in the old wing. Citrus Hikkaduwa provides a convenient base for the wide range of watersports available on this section of the West coast.

Accommodation
There are 90 a/c Deluxe and Standard rooms all equipped with cable TV, mini-bar, tea/coffee facility, and safe. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers. There are two rooms on the ground floor of the wing that is more spacious and easily accessible for those with mobility difficulties.

Deluxe Rooms: The 40 Deluxe rooms are housed in the new wing and have balconies with sea views.

Standard Rooms: situated in the old wing, the 50 Standard Rooms have also been refurbished and have balconies or terraces with sea views.
Facilities
The main restaurant located by the sea, serves both eastern and western cuisine buffet style. There is also a lounge, bar, swimming pool and a spa run by the popular Spa Ceylon offering relaxing massages and beauty treatments. Safe swimming in the sea is possible during the season from December to April. Citrus Hikkaduwa organises snorkelling, diving, and rides in a glass bottom boat to spot colourful corals and exotic reef fish.
Excursions
A wide range of watersports are on offer nearby in Hikkaduwa including surfing, windsurfing, diving on coral reef. International surfing championships in November are a special attraction. Bentota's lagoon is ideal for jet skiing, water skiing, and boat trips along the river. Visit the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project, which is a pioneering effort in conserving the endangered Marine Turtle species that come to nest in along the west coast of the island. These coastal towns and villages also share a vibrant cultural heritage including folklore, music, and dance forms. Many temples, kovils, churches, and mosques are situated along the coast. Cottage industries such as basket weaving, mask carving, and small shops selling Dutch antiques - furniture, lamps and ornaments, makes for interesting way side shopping. The historical town of Galle, with its 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site, is a short drive from Hikkaduwa. With its well-preserved ramparts overlooking the cricket stadium, lighthouse staring into the Indian Ocean, narrow streets and, interesting restaurants and boutique hotels full of character, Galle deserves a visit.
