Location
The Dutch House is an exquisite three bedroom villa with a mountainous location and overlooking the hill- country town of Bandarawela town at a distance. Bandarawela can also be accessed travelling directly from Colombo via Beragala or from Nuwara Eliya in the central highlands. The scenic towns of Ella and Haputale are half an hour away. The town is linked by the railway to Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, Kandy and Colombo.
Introduction
The Dutch House is a tastefully designed two-storey villa with a satin wood and ebony staircase, boarded floors and a spacious verandah. Interiors are luxurious and are decorated with Dutch period furniture, flowing raw silk drapes, and pieces of porcelain and art, all from the British owners' personal collections. Up to six guests can be accommodated and only one booking is taken at a time ensuring privacy and giving guests the use of the entire property. The owners discourage children under 10 years old for safety reasons. The Dutch House is the sister property of The Adelphi which opened in December 2011 and is a five-minute walk down hill.

Accommodation
Three loft style bedrooms – two double rooms and one twin room -- are upstairs. Rooms are light and airy and have hardwood floors and sloping roofs with exposed timber beams. Rooms are furnished with antique four-poster beds, down pillows and duvets, perfect for Bandarawela’s cool climate and on a warm day, just open out the windows and let the hill country breeze flow through.

Double Rooms: Spacious and cozy, these rooms are furnished with four poster beds, antique dresser and lounge chair. The ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers. The double rooms have garden and mountain views.

Twin Room: The room has two single beds and overlooks the front garden and mountains beyond. Guests in this room can use the bathroom located across the hallway.
Facilities
An attractive lounge and dining area with plush sofa and an antique six-seater dining table occupies the ground floor. Have a drink by the fire place while dinner is served. Weather permitting, a romantic candlelit dinner can be served at the edge of the garden with the lights of Bandarawela town twinkling at a distance. With prior notice, guests are also welcome to dine at The Adelphi nearby. Delicious Sri Lankan and Western dishes are served at the Dutch House. Discuss your choice of meals with the cook ahead of time and he will ensure meals are prepared using fresh meats and vegetables from the market. A complementary bottle of wine is provided upon arrival. Tea and coffee is served throughout the day. Alcoholic beverages are not available, but guests can bring their own. Take in the spectacular mountain views from the verandah amidst the sounds of rustling leaves and gentle bird call; or take a dip in the indoor swimming pool . The Dutch House has wifi internet facility throughout.
Excursions
Stroll through a tea plantation and visit a tea factory where you will gain insight into the manufacturing process as well as an opportunity to taste and purchase the different grades of hill country tea. Climb to the Lipton's Seat, a favorite look out point of Sir Thomas Lipton, the tea pioneer when surveying the surrounding region for his tea plantation near Haputale. Adisham Monastery, modeled on Leeds Castle in Kent, is an interesting morning's excursion. Once the home of Sir Thomas Villers in the early 20th century, Adisham now is a Benedictine monastery with well cared for rose and vegetable gardens. Several waterfalls including Dunhinda, Diyaluma, and Ravana Ella are all located nearby in the towns of Haputale and Ella.
