Location
Albatross is a five-bedroomed boutique hotel located amidst the central highlands within the 500 acres estate of the beautiful Victoria Golf and Country Resort, one of Asia's most beautiful courses. The estate rests within the Knuckles Range, approximately 20km east of Kandy, Sri Lanka's hill-country capital. The journey from Colombo's International Airport takes between 3.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic. To avoid the hassles of road travel, hop on board the Air taxi service from the International Airport directly to the Victoria Lake.
Introduction
Perched high on Coconut Hill, this boutique hotel offers fantastic service, good facilities and breathtaking views, yet remains reasonably priced. While Albatross is classed as a hotel it has the feel of a villa, with only five rooms, a lounge, dining area and staffed kitchen. They all open onto a shared balcony that overlooks a swimming pool and well-tended gardens. The pool benefits from stunning views of the golf course, the Victoria Reservoir and the Knuckles Mountain Range. The property has ample communal space, whether sitting in the lounge, on the lawned terrace or in the garden.

Accommodation
Albatross has four double rooms and one triple. The rooms are modern, clean and possess well-fitted ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers. Rooms are available on FB, HB and BB basis. All are ensuite with a/c and ceiling fan. Room 'Hole-in-one' has mini-bar fridge (non-alcoholic) and satellite TV, and the room 'Birdie' also has satellite TV.
Facilities
The menu is extensive here and the food is good and well priced; BBQs can also be arranged. Although the hotel does not have a liquor license, you can bring your own alcohol. Other facilities include dining area and lounge with satellite TV, DVD player, music system, IDD telephone, and internet facilities. Outdoors there is a private garden, terrace, sun deck and barbeque. There is a 30 ft. swimming pool, sauna and steam room and masseuse (at extra charge). Staff of four includes house keeping staff and chef.
Excursions
The Victoria Golf and Country Resort offers a wide range of facilities including an 18-hole golf course, putting green and practice range, Pro shop and PGA golf academy. Other sports and recreational facilities include bar and terrace dining, floodlit tennis court, Saddle club, riding lesson for adults and kids, and horse safaris. Other facilities include an outdoor infinity swimming pool and an Ayurvedic wellness centre offering a range of relaxing treatments. The surrounding reservoir and central hills are ideal for bird watching. Over 100 species of birds can be spotted on nature trails within the 500-acre estate accompanied by a local expert. Mountain bike trails also provide for much adventure. The city of Kandy, just 30 minutes away, is steeped in history and culture. Interesting activities include: a visit to the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined; Peradeniya Botanical gardens, with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; Kandy's rich ancient arts and crafts including drum making, Dumbara mat weaving and Kandyan dancing and drumming.
