Manor House, Kandy

Manor House is a fully refurbished heritage property originally built in 1884. Situated in the suburbs of Kandy, the house is away from the hustle and bustle of this hill country capital, yet close enough to experience the ancient Kandyan heritage. The drive from Colombo to Kandy is about three-and-a-quarter hours.
Introduction
Once the home of the Nugawella family, the chief custodians at one time of the sacred tooth relic in the Temple of the Tooth, the Manor House is an extensive property with a large well-kept garden and swimming pool. It has high roofs, arched columns, verandahs and central courtyard, and trellised windows and doorways. The original boarded floors have been retained upstairs, along with a mezzanine floor. This 14-roomed house, which includes suites and loft rooms, is ideal for couples, as well as friends and family travelling together. The Manor House can be booked per room.

Accommodation
There are four double rooms, two double loft rooms, and four suites located on two floors, with each room named after an indigenous flower. All rooms are a/c except for the loft rooms upstairs and have ensuite bathrooms. Each room includes TV and internet connection. The rooms are comfortably furnished with either Queen-size or twin beds. The suites have two Queen-size beds and a small dressing area. The loft rooms are romantic and open out to the balcony overlooking the front lawn.
Facilities
The ground floor consists of a large living and dining area where meals are served. Sri Lankan and western dishes are prepared at the Manor House using fresh market produce as well as fruits picked from the garden. The central courtyard at the back leads to a snooker room and Ayurvedic beauty salon. The main Ayurveda centre providing relaxing massages, flower baths, and other holistic therapies, lies in the tranquil garden next to the swimming pool. The upper floor of the Manor House also consists of a work area and library. The mezzanine floor houses a business centre for guests to use and gift shop.
Excursions
Potential excursions in Kandy include a visit to the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined; Peradeniya Botanical gardens, with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; nature walks in Udawatte Kelle Forest Reserve; and Kandy's rich ancient arts and crafts including drum making, Dumbara mat waving, and crafting Kandyan jewelry, and traditional Kandyan dance and drumming. The magnificent Victoria Golf and Country Club is about 35 minutes away.
