This immensely tranquil eco hotel has ayurvedic philosophy at its heart. It rests in the hills, about 15 minutes from Kandy, capital of Sri Lanka's hill country, where the tropical heat of the coast is exchanged for the verdant cool of lush mountain slopes. Kandy's delightful lakeside setting and cultural heritage make it an essential part of the Sri Lankan experience.
Introduction
The Tree of Life lolls on the site of an old estate bungalow, where it has become one of the most individualistic of Sri Lankan hotels. Its sprawls across 64 acres of woody, hilly terrain, a haven of solitude where guests prefer dawn nature walks to noisier pleasures. The hotel even has a resident naturalist to assist with hikes further afield. Cottages and standard rooms are built into the hillside, while the new wing commands splendid views over open country.

40 spacious a/c rooms - with private balconies and ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers and baths. Other in-room facilities include IDD phone, mini fridge, and 24 hour room service.
Facilities
Hill-top pool and bar, well-tended hillside gardens, with jogging and cycling routes, hiking, bird watching, and fishing, satellite TV, laundry, lounge, coffee shop, restaurant serving Sri Lankan and western cuisine and Ayurvedic cuisine for those undergoing treatments at the in-house wellness centre. Traditionally constructed, and under direct supervision of a qualified Ayurvedic physician, the wellness centre offers a range of Ayurvedic relaxing massages, herbal baths and beauty treatments as well as curative therapies. Treatments can be as simple as a one-off massage or involve analysis and treatment spanning several days. Herbal ingredients used for the treatments are grown in a special section of the hotel garden.
Excursions
Visit to the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined; Peradeniya Botanical gardens with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; and Kandy's rich ancient arts and crafts including drum making, Dumbara mat waving, and crafting Kandyan jewelry, and traditional Kandyan dance and drumming.
