Location
Theva Residency is a 10-room boutique hotel in the peaceful Hantane mountain range with breathtaking views overlooking the hill-country capital of Kandy. Cleverly designed on a small plot of land hugging the Hantane mountains, Theva is ideally suited for couples and is just 10 minutes away from the bustling city centre. The drive from Colombo takes approximately 3.5 hours.
Introduction
Theva Residency provides a peaceful holiday experience away from Kandy town, yet close enough to experience Kandy’s ancient cultural heritage. Theva stands tall at the edge of the Hantane mountains and is designed to capture panoramic views from the living and dining areas as well as the rooms and suites. It is best suited to those seeking indoor indulgence, but has less to commend it to those who prefer to live an outdoor life. The minimalist design with a mix of glass, wood and polished cement gives it a contemporary feel. The interiors are designed with splashes of colour based around Kandy’s world-famous Perahara (Buddhist street festival or pageant). Theva’s lounge and dining areas are on the ground floor and open out to an open-air terrace with mountain views and overlook the swimming pool below which is set within a strip of landscaped garden. The rooms and the penthouse are on the first and second floors all with beautiful views. Note: Due to the heights and open spaces on the ground floor, Red Dot does not recommend Theva for very young children.

Accommodation
The 10 residential areas include a spacious apartment, two suites, three superior balcony rooms and four deluxe rooms. The room furnishing includes a clever combination of pure cotton, silk, wood and glass – a mix of the traditional and modern. Theva uses elements from its central Perahara theme throughout the property. The hotel’s residential suites use a natural wood finish, coupled with cut cement and kitschy but comfortable furnishings to add a contemporary feel and vibrancy to an age-old tradition. Each room comes with the standard options of a flat-screen television, 24-hour cable connection, wi-fi and internet broadband connectivity, mini-bar, in-room safe, in-room temperature control, ethical tea box, and so on. Theva also provides 24 hr in-room dining, in-house laundry, choice of newspaper, Doctor on call, and a tuk-tuk service.

Penthouse - This spacious apartment, equipped with its own study, living and dining area, bar, kitchen and Jacuzzi, is situated on the top floor of the property with panoramic views. Its target market includes honeymooners, writers, visiting journalists or businessmen who wish to enjoy the luxuries of a boutique hotel while maintaining their usual lifestyle and privacy.

Suites - The luxurious Theva Suites are tucked away in a private corner of the hotel, where they offer unparalleled valley views and a sense of space and privacy. In addition, the rooms have a Jacuzzi placed at an elevation overlooking the valley, giving you the chance to enjoy the view from the comfort of your soaking tub.

Superior Rooms - The balcony rooms are swathed in cool white from floor to ceiling. The only colour to be seen here are splashes of bright red, blue, yellow and orange adding just the right amount of vibrancy to the room. Each of the Superior Rooms is equipped with individual barbeque facilities, an outdoor bathtub and a lie-low from where guests can savour the amazing views afforded to them or else retreat to the indoor shower cubicle with the same view.

Deluxe Rooms - These four rooms are designed to make the most of the stunning scenery. As with all the other rooms, the subtle Perahara-themed décor provides a hint of colour.
Facilities
Theva offers Sri Lankan, western and fusion cuisine prepared with fresh produce purchased locally. For those wanting to relax rather than go sight-seeing, there is a swimming pool and sunbathing area overlooking the valley. The property has its own sauna. The open-air seating outside the main restaurant is ideal for sunset cocktails.
Excursions
Theva’s location is a treat for nature lovers, bird-watchers and trekkers being a short stroll away from the lush Hantana rainforest full of rivulets, streams, animal and plant life. Hantana is a popular destination for etymologists. Nearby, you can visit the Hantana Tea Museum. Kandy itself has several interesting sight-seeing options including the Temple of the Tooth, one of the most sacred temples in the island, the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and the Udawattakele rainforest. Golfers will enjoy Victoria Golf & Country Club, one of Asia’s most beautiful courses
