Introduction
'Kadju', meaning cashew nuts, surround this wonderful beach house which is situated on an extensive cashew, fruit and vegetable plantation. Designed by a Sri Lankan architect, Pradeep Kodikara, this two storey beach house is situated on a hillock overlooking the shimmering seas below. Kadju has a contemporary feel with open plan living spaces that lets in the tropical sunshine, cooling ocean breeze, and allows for spectacular views of Seenimodara Bay. Uncut granite floors, cement, glass and steel elements are blended with vibrant colours, mood lighting and specially designed timber furniture - giving Kadju House a characterful and homely ambience. The secluded and private beach below is on a cove and is ideal for body boarding and swimming all year round. Kadju House can accommodate up to eight guests and is rented exclusively to one party on a villa only basis.

Facilities
The living and dining areas are situated on the ground floor overlooking the infinity pool and sweeping views of the Indian Ocean beyond. The pool terrace, serviced by a uniquely designed cement bar and the 36 foot long infinity pool filled with un-chlorinated fresh water - is perfect for relaxing outdoors. Meal times at Kadju House are flexible and are served at the dining table indoors, in the garden under the shade of a cashew tree, by the pool side or on the beach under the stars. Sri Lankan and European cuisine is served here prepared with fresh fruit and vegetables from their own gardens and other groceries purchased from the local market. Fresh sea food including lobster, crab, and prawns are purchased directly each day from the fishing boats as they come in from the sea. Discuss your meal preferences with the in-house chef ahead of time. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages.

The Spa Pavillion with its Cinnamon infused walls, provide a range of Ayurvedic treatments supervised by an experienced Ayurvedic doctor from the area. Medicinal herbs from Kadju’s own gardens are used for some of the treatments. For those interested in total mind and body relaxation, private yoga lessons are organized with prior notice. Kadju House and its gardens are ideal for quite reading and several interesting titles are available in the living room library. Each of the bedrooms also has a copy of the Cinnamon Peeler written by the famous Sri Lankan author – Michael Ondaatje.
Excursions
The Seenimodara Bay (sugar Bay) with its sugar soft sand is ideal for long walks. The cove offers opportunities for boating, fishing and snorkeling. The beaches on the south coast are secluded, long and unspoiled by overdevelopment. An extensive coral reef along the coast, has given rise to several bays, which are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Surfers will like the beaches around Ahangama and Midigama. Closer to Matara, you could explore Polhena and Talalla, a gorgeous crescent-shaped bay. Mirissa Water Sports offers several activities including whale watching, snorkeling, sailing, river trips, and sea kayaking.

Visit the ancient Mulgirigala Rock Temple perched on an enormous boulder more than 200m high. According to ancient inscriptions carved on the rock, Mulgirigala dates back almost 2,000 years when it was a site of a Buddhist monastery. Nature lovers will enjoy the monkeys and numerous birds that can be seen from Kadju’s pool terrace including parrots, peacocks, fishing eagles, kingfishers, woodpeckers and hummingbirds. Sri Lanka’s famous wildlife parks are also situated nearby including Yala, Bundala and Kalamatiya bird sanctuary with its semi-saline lagoons and mangrove swamps that attract flocks of Flamingos. Visit Rakuwa, a small fishing village near Tangalle where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save the endangered Marine Turtles that come to nest on the beach. We also recommend a visit to the historic city of Galle and its 17th century Dutch Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the old Fort, a small walled city with about 300 homes and an old-world feel, still remain with its well preserved bastions, public buildings, churches, lighthouse and a maze of narrow streets.
