Nov 13, 2007 : We loved the River House - attention to detail in the design is a delight. The food was beautiful although a first course was a full meal, and not being able to make a reasonable dent in the mains caused some distress for the chef. We ordered more carefully the following night. The rooms were gorgeous and the staff welcoming, attentive, and very engaging. When we left they all lined up to say goodbye on the steps! For one evening we were the only couple there and after talking about the Kandyan drums after dinner there was some shuffling around and the night broke into an impromptu jam on the drums. Locally the Geoffrey Bawa garden is well worth seeking out and the highlight was probably taking the hotel's canoes down to Cinnamon Island, seeing the local communities along the River, and coming back with our own personally hand rolled stick of cinnamon.

Nov 12, 2007 : We spent the first 2 nights of our holiday at River House and found it the perfect, relaxing, luxurious and secluded way to recover from jet lag. Beautiful, peaceful location, stunning, large suites, fantastic food (you must try the Sri Lanka curry / banquet) and impeccable service.
