Austrian Beach Resort, Kemagoda

Location

Austrian Beach is a 10 roomed Ayurveda wellness retreat that provides relaxing and curative therapies amidst a peaceful setting overlooking the magnificent beaches of Dickwella. Situated in the rural village of Kemagoda, Austrian Beach only caters to Ayurvedic clientele. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take upto five hours.

Introduction

Austrian Beach, providing a nurturing environment for healing and mind and body wellness is a unique project and is the vision of its Austrian owner, Christi. Her personal belief in the healing wisdom of Ayurveda as well as her desire to assist in the development of the surrounding village community, has seen this resort grow from strength to strength. The Ayurvedic wellness centre is headed by an experienced Ayurvedic physician attached to the government Ayurveda hospital in Dickwella. Curative treatments are offered for a range of medical conditions including Cholesterol, diabetes, weight loss and mental stress. A minimum of 14 days is required at Austrian Beach to experience a positive lifestyle change that will impact your future well-being.

Accommodation

There are eight Deluxe Rooms and two Standard Rooms all with private balconies or terraces overlooking the garden and sea beyond. All rooms have a/c, TV, mini-fridge, and telephone. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers. Rooms are furnished with double or single beds. Internet access is available in the reception area.

Facilities

The restaurant serves traditional Ayurveda cuisine with a diet plan for each guest which is monitored closely by the doctor. Fresh vegetables, fish and fresh juices are on offer. Alcoholic beverages are not available. The Ayurveda centre equipped with treatment rooms and a consultation room, is situated in the landscaped garden. A small swimming pool is set amidst flowering plants at one end. Safe swimming is possible right in front of the resort during the season from November to March.

Excursions

Experience Sri Lanka’s southern cultural heritage, rural villages, ancient temples and untouched wilderness. Visit Rakuwa, a small fishing village situated in Tangalle where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save this endangered species. Other attractions nearby, include Yala National Park, one of the largest national parks in the island where elephant and leopard can be seen and the Bundala Bird Sanctuary. The south of Sri Lanka beyond Dondra is considered one of the best locations in the world for spotting Blue Whales, Sperm Whales and Spinner Dolphins. These gigantic marine mammals can be spotted in the deep seas off the southern coastal town Mirissa. Whale watching excursions into the deep seas is organised by Mirissa Water Sports and Ceylon Fisheries Corporation during the season from December to April.
