It tends to use simpler accommodation than the Tailor-made Birding Holiday - although you can make any changes that you wish. It takes you through some of the island’s most fascinating locations including coastal wetlands, rainforests and the soaring peaks of the hill country in search of exotic species of birds. Sri Lanka is a birdwatchers’ delight and attracts more than 400 species, nearly half of them migrants and more than 20 endemic to the island. This Red Dot bird watching holiday comes with a specialist guide and can be designed to satisfy everyone from the committed twitcher to the amateur enthusiast. The best time for birding in Sri Lanka is between November and March when the migrant birds have landed, but there is plenty to satisfy you all year round. Butterflies of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a butterfly lover’s paradise. A total of 245 species have been recorded, 21 of them found only on the island. This is a journey through Sri Lanka’s wetlands and forest reserves in search of the island’s butterflies - from the largest Ceylon Birdwing with the wing span ranging from 95 to 135mm, to the smallest - the Grass Jewel which measures only 8-13mm. You can approach this tour as a chance for serious study or a relaxed amble around some of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful rural spots – as ever, we will adjust the mood to suit your own needs. Sri Lanka’s untouched wilderness is also home to numerous species of birds, mammals and reptiles. This tour takes you through Sri Lanka’s diverse landscapes and untouched wilderness to spot Sri Lanka’s dragonflies as well as the exotic birds and butterflies found on the island. The journey also includes a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s rural life and the ancient heritage. Some of the hotels included in this itinerary such as Vil Uyana in Sigiriya, Hunas Falls in Kandy and St. Andrew’s hotel in Nuwara Eliya have created mad-made wetlands to attract dragonflies which is excellent for visitors and also helps conservation of the species.
