Calamander Unawatuna Beach has a prime position on Unawatuna’s horseshoe bay, which ensures that it will always be immersed in its laid-back lifestyle. Refurbished and rebranded in 2013, the resort is a popular beachside holiday retreat that welcomes families and independent travellers. Calamander Beach Resort offers comfortable rooms, restaurants serving Sri Lankan and international cuisine and a laid-back ambience that is ideal for a relaxing holiday. In 2014, a glass fronted lap pool was added to the range of facilities on offer. Unawatuna bay has a youthful feel with a scattering of beachside cafes, bars and restaurants that come alive with music at night. Calamander Unawatuna Beach was originally built in the 1980s and is the only star-classified hotel on Unawatuna Bay.
Accommodation is in Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Luxury rooms with garden or ocean views. The well appointed bedrooms are furnished with king-size beds and open out to private terraces or balconies. Standard in-room facilities include a/c, overhead fans, 32 inch flat screen TV with satellite channels, complimentary wifi internet, mini-bar, tea/coffee facility, and electronic safe. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Deluxe Rooms (300 sq. ft.): The 47 Deluxe Rooms open out to private terraces or balconies with garden views or views of the hills at the back of the property. The rooms are furnished with king-size beds and have all standard in-room facilities. A single bed is provided at an additional charge. Maximum occupancy is two adults and a child.
Super Deluxe Rooms (355 sq. ft.): The eight Super Deluxe rooms are located on the ground floor and have garden views. These bedrooms are spacious and can accommodate three guests.
Luxury rooms (505 sq. ft.): There are 22 Luxury Rooms all with ocean views. These are the most spacious rooms on offer. The Luxury Rooms on the ground floor have wheel chair access and bathrooms that are designed for those with mobility difficulties. Interiors are furnished with a king-size bed, an additional sofa-bed in the sitting area. In addition to the standard in-room facilities, these luxurious rooms have ensuite bathrooms with a bath tub or Jacuzzi and h/w rain shower. Maximum occupancy is three adults or two adults and two children.
The Brix Pizzeria and café, serves up a range of snacks, pizzas and breads made in a brick oven. The main restaurant adjoining the Brix Pizzeria is named `Melt’ and serves Sri Lankan and international cuisine buffet style. Melt also has an a la carte menu, show cooking stations where Sri Lankan favourites such as hoppers and string hopper are prepared, and theme nights which includes specialty seafood dishes, Thai, and Chinese cuisine. The Coco Rumba bar offers a range of alcoholic beverages with discount on beer and other beverages during the daily `happy hour.’ In 2014, a glass fronted lap pool was completed offering guests an ideal setting to relax and take in the sun. Other hotel facilities include wifi internet in public areas; wellness centre run by `Foot Rub’ offering relaxing reflexology foot massages; yoga classes, beach volley ball, and a PADI certified dive centre that also offers a range of water sports. The turquoise seas towards the east end of the bay, which is just a short stroll from the hotel, is safe for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and other watersports during the season from December to April.
Calamander Unawatuna Beach (previously known as Unawatuna Beach Resort), is a popular beach retreat fronting Unawatuna Bay on the Galle Coast. Galle’s historic 17C Dutch Fort is a 15-minute drive. The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take approximately 2.5 hours via the Southern highway.
