Kirchhayn is a refurbished planter’s bungalow set amidst the 50-acre Aislaby tea estate in Bandarawela. Surrounded by mountain peaks in the breathtaking southern highlands, Kirchhayn is a peaceful haven. Bandarawela can be accessed via Ratnapura or Nuwara Eliya. Avoid road travel altogether and arrive from Colombo in style by helicopter and land at the bungalow’s own helipad.
Introduction
This century-old colonial planter's bungalow and the surrounding Aislaby Tea Estate is steeped in history. Until recently, the property was owned by a British planting family - the Bostocks who arrived in Ceylon in 1884. The property changed hands in 2010 and the present Sri Lankan owners have retained Kirchhayn’s old world charm blending it with modern conveniences. Kirchhayn has large spacious rooms, working fireplaces that are lit on a cold night, and hardwood floors. Interiors are decorated with antiques and old black and white photographs of days gone by. Most of the staff has been here from the days of the Bostocks and looks after the property with much pride. Venture off on a trek through the tea plantations, play a game of croquet or tennis, and by night fall relax with a drink by the fire place till dinner is served. Kirchhayn bungalow is rented by the room on a BB basis.

Accommodation
There are five suites named after the Bostock family and their friends. Each suite has a sitting area by a working fireplace, bedroom and ensuite bathroom that has been upgraded with modern fittings including h/w shower, bathtub, wash basin, w/c and hairdryer. The suites are furnished with antique beds fitted with mosquito netting (some are canopied four poster beds), dressers, almairahs, and planter's chairs.

Bostock Suite: this master bedroom is furnished with a King-size bed and an open fire place. With direct access to the extensive lawn and the swimming pool.

Pyman Suite: Have two double beds with windows opening out to the rolling hills of the front lawn.

Lushington Suite: Opens out to a private enclosed terrace where meals are served on request. Rooms is furnished with a queen-size bed and the en suite bathroom has a Victorian bathtub.

Wickwar Suite: has a queen-size bed with a private terrace and a small library.

Taylor Suite: has a queen-size bed and private terrace. The ensuite bathroom has a sunken bathtub and shower.
Facilities
There is a living room with comfortable sink-in sofas and armchairs in front of log fires. Candle lit dinners are laid out in the dining room served by staff in traditional crisp white jacket and sarong. Breakfast can be enjoyed on the verandah or in your own room. Sri Lankan and western dishes are served prepared with fresh vegetables from the garden. Aislaby tea is served throughout the day. For those venturing outdoors, the chef will be pleased to pack a picnic lunch. The gardens at Kirchhayn are a treat with rolling hills and manicured lawns that kids will love playing on while the adults relax by the poolside. Other facilities includes satellite TV, DVD player, CD player, indoor board games, outdoor games including cricket, croquet, tennis; internet access, IDD telephone, a small library with books on Sri Lanka, and a recently added helipad which can be used by those wanting to avoid road travel. The Helitours helicopter service is run by the owners of Kirchhayn bungalow. Plans are afoot for a putting green which will be completed in the near future. The bungalow manager and his staff are at hand to assist guests and will ensure that a perfectly relaxing holiday is had by all.
Excursions
Take a stroll through the Aislaby Tea Estate and try your hand at plucking tea. Several trails are possible including a half hour walk to the "Bostock seat" or a rigorous hour-and-a-half through some of the best tea in the world culminating with a steep climb to the top of the "patna" to check out the most spectacular 360° view. En route, visit the Aislaby Tea factory and the Hindu Kovil nearby. Bird watching is rewarding here and for those who are really keen, the Tangamale Bird Sanctuary located half an hour away in Haputale, is an interesting excursion. Adisham, a Benedictine Monastery, and several waterfalls, including Dunhinda, Diyaluma, and Ravana Ella are all located nearby in the towns of Haputale and Ella.
