Location
Amor Villa is a homely holiday retreat set amidst a coconut grove and edged by the sunkissed beaches of Dalewalla, on the fringe of Unawatuna. A heritage bungalow and a newly-built wing of the villa offers clean and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. The historic town of Galle is just 10 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about four hours.
Introduction
The main bungalow at Amor Villa, once owned by a village headman, is more than 150 years old and has been well preserved by the Sri Lankan owner, retaining its original architecture. Verandahs, windows and doors with ornate timber carvings, wooden floors and an old staircase still remain. The interiors are simple with some antiques and a mix of colours. The new wing is closer to the beach. Essentially, Amor Villa provides a peaceful and spacious holiday setting with excellent Sri Lankan hospitality. It can be booked per room or in its entirety and is rented on a bed and breakfast basis.

Red Dot recommends the rooms in the main bungalow, which has four a/c double rooms with twin or double antique beds fitted with mosquito netting. The attached bathrooms have h/w showers. The new wing has an additional seven rooms with attached bathrooms. Of these, four rooms on the upper floor have a/c and twin beds. Room service is available.
Facilities
An open-sided garden restaurant looks out on to the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is on offer here. Fresh seafood including lobster, crab and prawns is purchased directly from the local fisherman and is prepared to your liking. Beer and wine is available. The lounge area in the main villa has satellite TV and internet facility. There is no swimming pool. The clean, broad stretch of sandy beach right in front of the villa is ideal for relaxing and taking in the sunsets. A few minutes stroll along the beach takes you to an area where the sea is safe for swimming during the season from November to March.
Excursions
Experience Unawatuna’s characterful lifestyle: relaxing by the waters of the Indian Ocean, surfing and snorkelling, eating out at small cafes and restaurants, and bars that come alive with music at night. Watersports are on offer nearby including deep-sea fishing, catamaran and boat rides, diving, surfing, and snorkelling. High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple. A walk around the headland reveals beautiful ocean views. You will walk through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach’ - a little known and secluded beach. Galle’s historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, and a growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
