Location
Kurullah is a three-bedroomed villa on a tranquil coconut estate in Koggala. The beaches and restaurants of Unawatuna are just 1km away and the historic city of Galle is 15 minutes drive. The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take approximately four-and-a-quarter hours.
Introduction
`Kurullah’, meaning bird in Sinhala, is an appropriate name for this wonderful colonial villa set amidst one and a half acres of Frangipani, Coconut and fruit trees that attracts numerous species of birds. The villa is caringly refurbished and maintains the old colonial architectural features of high ceilings with wooden beams, walkways, verandas and courtyards. It can accommodate up to seven guests. Interiors are tastefully furnished with Dutch period antiques and equipped with all modern conveniences.

Accommodation
Three spacious bedrooms all open out to surrounding gardens. All rooms have a/c and four-poster antique beds fitted with mosquito netting. One bedroom has an additional single bed that is suitable for a child. The ensuite bathrooms have stylish interiors with grey polished stone and antique features.
Facilities
Kurullah has a large living and dining area with an impressive 40 ft. high wooden beamed ceiling. The living room has a telephone, TV with satellite channels, DVD player and DVD library, and stereo system. The main dining table seats up to 10 while alfresco dining is possible on the wonderful veranda overlooking the gardens in which there is a 22m swimming pool with sunbeds. There is a well equipped modern kitchen with a stove, grill, oven, fridge and freezer for those wishing to do their own cooking. If you wish to rent the villa on a catered basis, select from the menu and Kurullah’s in-house chef will be happy to prepare your choice of meals. Seafood is a speciality here with fresh lobster, prawns and crabs purchased straight from the fishing boats each day and cooked to your liking. For those wishing to eat out, Kurullah is a short distance away from Unawatuna’s beach side restaurants and Galle Fort’s exquisite fine-dining restaurants. Kurullah’s staff includes a cook, house keeper and gardener.
Excursions
Explore the village of Koggala and the simple rural lifestyle of these southern villagers. Stop by at the historic Giniwella temple and the ancient Kathaluwa temple known for its Buddhist murals. Go on a boatride on Koggala Lake scattered with 16 small islands where rural life unfolds and nature reigns supreme. Fish eagles to monitor lizards share this habitat along with generations of villagers with a rich southern heritage. Visit the Koggala Folk Museum that provides an insight into Sri Lankan Folk culture. Galle’s historic 17th century Dutch Fort is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants. Surfing and snorkelling is possible in Thalpe and Unawatuna just 10 minutes away as well as in Mirissa a short journey further down the south coast.
