Neptune Resort is a 12-bedroomed guest house situated on the golden beaches of Weligama Bay in Sri Lanka’s deep south. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about five hours.
Introduction
Neptune Resort, owned by a German and Sri Lankan couple, is blessed with a beautiful location right on Weligama Bay which is safe for swimming and snorkelling throughout the year. The bedrooms are basic, but comfortable. The restaurant serves Sri Lankan and western cuisine. A hospitable, homely feel has attracted many a guest to return to this family-run guest house.

Accommodation
The 12 ensuite bedrooms are situated in separate two-storey chalets, each having four rooms. Some rooms have a/c and all open out to a private balcony with sea views. Red Dot recommends the upstairs rooms in the first chalet situated right on the beach. This has the best sea views. The ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers. Bedrooms are furnished with double beds fitted with mosquito netting. Mini-fridges are provided upon request.
Facilities
The restaurant and bar has a thatched roof and a casual feel and serves Sri Lankan and western dishes. Fresh seafood is purchased directly from the village fisherman and cooked to your liking. Beach BBQs are held on some nights. Swimming and snorkelling is possible right in front of the guest house. Surfing is possible in nearby Medigama and Ahangama. Snorkelling and surfing gear is available at Neptune Resort.
Excursions
The south of Sri Lanka beyond Dondra is considered one of the best locations in the world for spotting Blue Whales, Sperm Whales and Spinner Dolphins. Mirissa Water Sports as well as the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation based in the Mirissa Harbour offers Whale and Dolphin watching excursions during the season from December to April. Mirissa Water Sports also offers other leisure activities including game fishing, coastal cruises, snorkelling, sea kayaking, river and mangrove trips. We also recommend a visit to the historic city of Galle and its 17th century Dutch Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the old Fort, a small walled city with about 300 homes and an old-world feel, still remain with its well preserved bastions, public buildings, churches, lighthouse and a maze of narrow streets.
