Villa Secret Garden is located within the youthful holiday bay of Unawatuna, only a sort stroll away from the beautiful beach and the best of the simple beachfront bars and restaurants. The historic Galle Fort is only a 15-minute tuk-tuk away. Unawatuna Bay offers some of the safest swimming in the island but there are plenty of alternate beaches nearby too including Wijeya, Thalpe, Midigama, Ahangama and Mirissa. The journey from the airport is about four-and-a-half hours.
Introduction
Villa Secret Garden will appeal to independently-minded travellers who prefer a private, secluded setting to the greater facilities of a top hotel. It lives up to its name - a hidden oasis tucked away from the livelier Unawatuna beachfront. It is increasingly popular with those interested in Yoga, meditation and Ayurveda. Set in lush tropical gardens, there are plenty of spots to chill before sampling the buzz of Unawatuna's night life in the evening. This charming bungalow, which can be rented in part or whole, is one of the best guesthouses on the bay.

Accommodation
Villa Secret Garden, which can also be rented as one unit accommodating 8-10 people, has two master bedrooms, each with an adjoining bedroom with connecting doors. A bathroom and lounge area is also attached to each master bedroom, with patio bathrooms, two living rooms, a large veranda and a tea pavilion. The rooms are furnished with Dutch period antiques. There is also a small garden bungalow which can sleep between 2-4 people. All bedrooms have ceiling fans and mosquito nets.
Facilities
The Secret Garden has limited facilities - only a single restaurant serving a variety of reliable dishes - but Unawatuna itself has more to offer. For relaxing away from the lively beach, the Secret Garden has much to appeal. Within the garden is a large gazebo which always provides welcome shade during the hot afternoons and occasionally hosts live music in the evening. In the garden there is a Yoga and meditation dome which holds regular classes and seminars. Ayurveda relaxing massage - the best in Unawatuna - is also available.
Excursions
Safe swimming is possible in Unawatuna's beautiful beaches. Several water sports are on offer including deep sea fishing, catamaran and boat rides, surfing, and snorkelling. High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple. With beautiful views stretching out over the Indian Ocean a walk around the headland near the temple is very special. Famed for the natural medicinal herbs nearby you will walk through hidden villages and verdant wooded valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach' - a little known and secluded beach. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
