Location
Easy Beach is a welcoming guesthouse that lies about half-an-hour south of Galle. Ahangama has some of the best beaches and surf spots in the area. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about 4.5 hours which will be reduced considerably once the Southern highway is completed at the end of 2011. The train from Colombo takes four hours and you disembark at Ahangama village train station, a mere five minute’s walk from the guesthouse. Seaplane air taxis from Colombo land on Koggola Lake, fifteen minutes up the coast.
Introduction
Youthful surfers, Colombo ex-pats and independently-minded travellers have grown to love the genial, laid-back atmosphere encouraged by the Norwegian founders of Easy Beach. Enter through the unassuming doorways and into an airy café-style restaurant which opens onto palm-fringed gardens with sun loungers and hammocks. The property fronts a pristine stretch of sandy beach which is ideal for swimming and surfing during the season from December to April. The Britishcouple who manage the Norwegian-owned hotel are ardent surfers who know the area well and are ever willing to give surfing lessons for beginners and intermediate level surfers. Easy Beach is an ideal holiday getaway where the simple pleasures of life can be enjoyed at excellent value for money.

Accommodation
Accommodation is in eight standard bedrooms, two cabanas and a separate two bed roomed villa. All rooms here are comfortably furnished with king-size four-poster bed, optional pull out single beds, electronic safes and overhead ceiling fans. Doors and windows are fitted with mosquito grills and can be kept opened throughout the day to let the cooling ocean breeze in. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.

Standard Rooms: There are eight standard rooms of which one has a/c. All open out to private verandahs with sea views.

Cabanas: The two cabanas are spacious. Each has an a/c bedroom and sitting area leading out on to raised private verandahs with sea views.

Villa: The villa is located at the edge of the property and has an enclosed garden providing more privacy. There are two bedrooms here opening out to a private verandah with sea views where you can dine. There is also a small kitchenette equipped with a fridge and cooker. The villa can sleep up to four guests and is ideal for a family.
Facilities
Dine indoors or outdoors under the stars. The restaurant here is even popular with non-resident guests and serves up Sri Lankan and international cuisine ranging from tasty sea food specialties such as calamari and lobster to Mexican tortilla wraps, cheese burgers, healthy salads and shakes, croissants and pain au chocolat. There is a well stocked bar offering chilled beers, wine and cocktails. The restaurant also has satellite TV screening cricket and football; chill-out music; and wifi internet facility. Vintage surf films and other movie classics are screened on some nights. There are plans to offer relaxing spa therapies; an outdoor barber shop and salon offering haircuts, manicures, pedicures and typical local method of shaving for gentlemen; and outdoor `Venice beach style’ simple gym especially designed for surfers. Ahangama Easy Beach is a haven for surfers, located right at the epicentre of Sri Lanka’s most reef and beach-break rich coastal strip and equidistant from Medigama and Kabalana. Short, medium and long surfboards are for hire if you haven’t brought your own. There is also a paddleboard available for experts. A range of good quality surf gear is available for sale and lessons are conducted for beginners and intermediates. Plans are afoot to install a swimming pool. In the meantime the reef-protected lagoon fronting the hotel is safe for swimming at mid and low tide, especially during the season from November to April. Other hotel facilities include a diverse selection of books, a darts board, movies and board games; a travel cot, a toy-box and high chair for toddlers; baby-sitting with prior notice and a laundry service.
Excursions
Try your hand at stilt fishing which is a traditional method of fishing in these areas. Stilt fisherman can be spotted right and left of Easy Beach during the day. There are several challenging reef breaks and one beginner beach break a stone’s throw from the guesthouse and a multitude of further breaks within 20kms. There is a beautiful Buddhist temple within a ten minute walk directly inland and boat trips from a Spice Garden on Koggola Lake just a fifteen minute tuk-tuk ride away. Visits to nearby jewellery and tea factories as well as to Yala National park two hours along the coast can be arranged. Based at Mirissa Harbour, Mirissa Water Sports offers exciting water sports activities such as sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, sea kayaking, snorkelling and boating. The south of Sri Lanka beyond Dondra is considered one of the best locations in the world for spotting blue whales, sperm whales and spinner dolphins. Whale watching excursions into the deep seas is organised by Mirissa Water Sports during the season from December to April when the seas are calm. We also recommend a visit to Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings which are still in use, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the lighthouse, and a growing collection of art galleries, shops, restaurants and several boutique hotels and cafes. There is also an ever-growing array of fantastic restaurants and beach bars dotted along the stunning coastline between Easy Beach and Galle.
