Location
Situated on the land side just five minutes away from Negombo’s sandy beaches, Villa Araliya consists of stylishly designed rooms and apartments set amidst peaceful gardens. Negombo is just 20 minutes from the International Airport and Villa Araliya is and ideal first stop of your holiday in Sri Lanka where you can recuperate after a long flight amidst comfort and warm hospitality. Negombo is also enroute to the Cultural Triangle, hill country and the south coast.
Introduction
A sister property to Serendip Stone Bungalow in Kandy, Villa Araliya is the creation of its owner, Palitha who has personally designed the buildings as well as the interiors. The Wallawua style trellis work, columns and verandahs, terracotta and cement flooring is blended with touches of contemporary design. Guests have a choice of double rooms or apartments which can be rented for even one night. Palitha’s creative talents also extend to Italian cuisine and run a restaurant which is quite popular, in the adjacent premises where he lives along with his Dutch wife Stephanie. Loving kindness to animals is strictly adhered to here and the family is involved in the rescue and nurturing of homeless animals in Negombo. In keeping with this philosophy, mainly vegetarian meals are served here with the exception of fish. Eco-friendly policies are also emphasised with recycling of waste material and conservation of water. Villa Araliya takes on a special ambience at nights when the oil lamps scattered in the gardens are lit with its flickering flames casting a gentle glow.

Accommodation
There are 12 airconditoned double rooms each with a private balcony or verandah and ensuite bathroom with h/w shower. Each room and bathrooms is uniquely designed. Rooms are furnished either with antique four post beds or more modem beds with aesthetically designed cement bases. Bathrooms have h/w showers. There are five apartments – of which three are single bedroomed and the rest have two bedrooms each. These apartments are spacious and are well furnished. The ground floor has a living room with TV, dining area and well equipped kitchen. For long staying guests (for a period of over one month), the apartments can be rented on a self-catering basis with saucepans, crockery and cutlery all provided.
Facilities
A bar and restaurant is situated overlooking the swimming pool. Mainly Sri Lankan and Italian vegetarian dishes, fish and prawns is served here. Meats are not served. Guests are also welcome at the main restaurant across the road, which has a pizza oven and prepares home made pasta. This restaurant, which is also open to the public has been purposefully kept away from Araliya’s premises so that the calm and tranquil ambience is maintained. Villa Araliya serves arrange of alcoholic beverages. Internet facility is available in all bedrooms, apartments, reception, and swimming pool area. Bikes are available for guests to use.
Excursions
Explore the golden beaches and the fishing villages just minutes away from Villa Araliya. Sail off into the sunset on a catamaran with the local fisherman. Experience Negombo’s colonial architectural heritage including Portuguese period Catholic Churches, ruins of the Dutch Fort and cemetery, and boat rides along the centuries old Dutch Canals. Take a boat ride into the Muthurajawela Marshes - rich in bird life and amphibians. Negombo by night also has a vibrant atmosphere with a scattering of bars and restaurants.
