Tarshush is a self-catering beach villa on the edge of Unawatuna Bay on the south coast and just 10 minutes away from the historic city of Galle. Unawatana’s beautiful horseshoe bay is littered with small, characterful beachside bars and restaurants. The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take about four hours.
Introduction
Tarshush is a `tropical modern’ beach house designed along contemporary lines with stylish minimalist interiors and large glass doors and windows that provide uninterrupted sea views. The ground floor of this compact beach villa consists of an open-plan living and dining area opening out to a small strip of garden and the sea beyond. The upper floor has three bedrooms all with spectacular sea views and can accommodate up to six guests. A sister property nearby, Polheena Estate, offers a different feel -- an exquisitely refurbished colonial-period bungalow situated inland amidst paddy fields and village temples. Special rates are available for those wishing to spend time in both properties.

Accommodation
There are three a/c double rooms, also with ceiling fans, on the upper floor opening out to a large balcony with panoramic views of the ocean. Bedrooms are furnished with four poster beds fitted with mosquito netting and writing desk. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
The spacious living and dining area on the ground floor has swivel glass doors and opens out to a small garden deck where you can relax on a sun bed. There is a well-equipped kitchen and fresh seafood, market produce and groceries can be biught locally. If you prefer to order out, deliveries from neighbouring cafes and restaurants can be arranged. There is a daily cleaning service and 24-hours security.
Excursions
Tarshush overlooks a rocky outcrop, with safe swimming a five-minute stroll along the bay. Numerous watersports are on offer in Unawatuna and Mirissa including sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, river trips, sea kayaking, snorkelling and boating. Dolphin and Whale watching is offered by Mirrisa Watersports from December to April. Koggala Lake, with its many tiny islands inhabited with several species of birds, is another wonderful experience. High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple. Walk around the headland through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach' - a little known and secluded beach. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, and a growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
