Location
Anilana Craigbank is a highy-regarded four bed roomed hill country villa with a colonial feel situated amidst landscaped gardens in a prime vantage point above Nuwara Eliya, overlooking the golf course. The bungalow has spectacular views of Single Tree Mountain and Pidurutalagala. Nuwara Eliya, an old colonial hill station, lies more than 2,000 metres above sea level. The drive from Kandy is about three hours.
Introduction
Craigbank is a 160-year-old colonial bungalow of considerable old world charm. Owned by the Anilana Group, which also owns several other boutique hotels in Sri Lanka, Anilana Craigbank stands in an acre of landscaped gardens. The interiors are warm and inviting with hardwood floors, fabric-lined walls, antiques, plush sofas, and fireplaces that are lit at night. Relax with a cup of tea on the peaceful verandah, take a stroll along Nuwara Eliya’s leafy by roads lined with colonial period mansions, play a round of golf at the century-old Nuwara Eliya Golf Club with its tight fairways and testing greens, or just stay home and play around in the garden with Gin & Tonic – Craigbank’s friendly golden labradors. Accommodation
Craigbank has four ensuite bedrooms which includes one Master bedroom and three Standard rooms. All bedrooms have fireplaces, electric heaters and are comfortably furnished with double or single beds. The ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers, bathtubs and twin vanities.

South Room: This is a uniquely designed Master suite with an intimate private dining area opening out to back gardens laid with white lilies and agapanthus. This dining are is surrounded by closed doorways and walls decorated with rare species of preserved butterflies. Enter through one of the doorways and you step into a beautiful brown bedroom with a large, modern king-sized bed and fireplace. Another doorway leads to the bathroom with twin vanities, bathtub, and h/w shower.

East Room: This green bedroom, furnished with an antique double bed, opens out to the same lily-strewn back garden.

West Room: Opening out to the front gardens, the West room has walls of red, a fireplace and an antique double bed.

North Room: This is a light and airy room with white walls and twin beds. The bedroom has access to the front gardens.
Facilities
The drawing room and the verandah, overlooking the gardens, offer plenty of spaces to relax and unwind. There is a Plasma TV with satellite channels, DVD player, DVD library, shelves with interesting books on Sri Lanka, and plenty of board games. The dining room has a ten-seater dining table set by a fireplace. Guests can also dine in the privacy of their own suite or the verandah. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is prepared with fresh herbs from Craigbank’s home garden and produce purchased daily from Nuwara Eliya town. Guests are welcome to come into the kitchen and learn Sri Lankan cuisine. The sprawling front garden is perfect for morning walks or for children to run around. The back garden with all white flowering plants is ideal for quiet contemplation. Craigbank is staffed with a cook and housekeeping staff.
Excursions
Take a walk along the leafy byroads of Nuwara Eliya lined with tall pine trees and heritage mansions. For the more active there is tennis and snooker at the Hill Club, jogging around the Race Course, and, of course, golf at the century-old Nuwara Eliya Golf Club with its tight fairways and testing greens. For nature lovers, visit Victoria Park with its landscaped gardens and Himalayan migratory birds such as the Kashmir Flycatcher, Pied Thrush Indian Pitta and the Indian Blue Robin. Horton's Plains, an undulating 2000m high plateau 28km south of Nuwara Eliya, is also a popular day's excursion. The grassy plains, which are interspersed with small patches of forest, are home to leopards, sambur, deer, bear, monkeys and a rich array of birds, including some endemic species. A guided tour around a tea estate and factory is an enlightening experience where you can learn about the process of tea production before it reaches your cuppa. It also provides an opportunity to buy the best grades of up-country tea.
