Bawa House 87 is a magnificent four-bedroom villa set on 17 acres of gardens designed by Sri Lanka’s famous architecture guru, the late Geoffrey Bawa. The sandy west-coast beaches of Bentota are just a short stroll away. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about three hours.
Introduction
Bawa House 87 is an ideal setting for a peaceful and romantic holiday. Set on acres of meandering gardens, lakes, grottos, and marshland, this serene and inspiring setting was created by Bawa in the 1960’s for his artist friend Lydia Gunasekera. Over the years, subsequent owners have developed it further into a boutique villa. The property consists of two separate bungalows, both overlooking the sprawling gardens and the lake beyond. Similar to Bawa’s famous garden retreat, Lunuganga, which is situated just minutes away, the gardens at Bawa House 87 are a work of art with 100-year-old Banyan trees and gigantic Bird’s Nest ferns, pathways and waterways that meander past statues and even ruins of a chapel. Up to six adults can be accommodated here and bookings are taken from only one party at a time ensuring privacy and exclusive use of the property.
