Location
Indisch is an exquisite five-bedroom beachside boutique hotel in Ahangama, 15 kms south of Galle. The journey from Colombo’s airport will take up to 4.5 hours take the Air Taxi, which offers flights from the Bandaranaike International Airport directly to Koggala which is only a few minutes away from Indisch.
Introduction
Inspired by the old `Indisch’ world of the East Indies which spread to Ceylon from what is known today as Indonesia, this boutique hotel was designed with a strong colonial-style flavour by an American architect Richard Emery. Elegant interiors with whitewashed walls, white terrazzo flooring, high timber ceilings, and spacious living spaces are tastefully decorated with antiques and object d’art. Relax on the verandah, take in the sun by the poolside, or stroll along the beach and watch the stilt fisherman go about their daily catch. Children are welcome at Indisch and there is much to keep them entertained including an adventure playground.

Accommodation
All five spacious suites at Indisch are located on the upper floor and have sea or garden views. Two of the suites open out to a spacious balcony that skirts along the back of the house. The Indian Ocean views from here are spectacular. All suites have a/c and overhead fans and are furnished with four poster beds fitted with mosquito netting, dresser, writing desk and antique almairah. Baby cots are available upon request. In-room facilities include safety locker and hair dryer. Ensuite bathrooms have twin vanities, h/w rain head showers and some have bathtubs.
Facilities
There are plenty of quiet spaces at Indisch to relax and unwind including verandahs, balconies and extensive gardens. The living and dining area is located on the ground floor and opens out to the back gardens, swimming pool and the sea beyond. There is a den equipped with satellite TV, DVD, home theatre system and library. South east Asian and western cuisine is served here prepared with fresh vegetables and seafood purchased directly from the local fisherman. Sri Lankan rice and curries are cooked the traditional way in clay pots over a firewood hearth. The chef is happy to teach local cuisine. Choose to dine in the formal elegant dining room or alfresco style on the verandah overlooking the sea. The back gardens at Indisch are edged by the beach. Swimming in the sea right in front of the villa is not advisable, but just a five-minute stroll along the beach there is a secluded cove which is perfect for swimming during the season from November to April. Indisch has several facilities for children including a special menu, high chairs and cots, DVDs and board games, adventure playground in the garden and shallow areas in the 15 metre swimming pool that are safe for children. Other in-house facilities include internet throughout the villa, room service, laundry service, and doctor-on-call.
Excursions
Based at the Mirissa harbour, Mirissa Water Sports offers watersports such as sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, river trips, sea kayaking, snorkelling and boating. The south of Sri Lanka beyond Dondra is considered one of the best locations in the world for spotting blue whales, sperm whales and spinner dolphins. Whale watching excursions are organised by Mirissa Water Sports during the season from December to April when the seas are calm. Mirissa Water Sports is a charitable organisation helping to generate employment for the youth from the tsunami affected coastal areas. Visit Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings which are still in use, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the lighthouse and a growing collection of shops, art galleries, restaurants and cafes.
