Wijeya Beach is a small eight-bedroom guesthouse overlooking the magnificent Unawatuna Bay. With one of the best restaurants on the Galle Coast, Wijeya Beach is very much a part of Unawatuna’s youthful lifestyle. Galle’s historic Dutch Fort is just 15 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s airport will take upto four hours.
Introduction
Perched at the edge of the Indian Ocean, Wijeya Beach is well known for its sumptuous fusion cuisine and characterful ambience and is a popular meeting place for those visiting the south coast. Sri Lankan owner Mahendra is an experienced chef and personally supervises the meals. Most guests prefer to spend an entire day here with even a dip in the sea right in front of Wijeya Beach where the coral reef forms a wonderful natural rock pool. The bedrooms are located over the restaurant and will appeal to younger travellers.

Accommodation
There are eight double rooms of which Red Dot can provide personal recommendations. Our favourite rooms open out to a balcony overlooking the sea over the rooftop. The rooms are furnished with double beds fitted with mosquito netting and have overhead fans. The attached bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
The small beachside restaurant offers a range of Sri Lankan, western and fusion cuisine, fresh juices and alcoholic beverages. Seafood is a speciality here and is purchased directly from the local fisherman. Safe swimming in the sea is possible during the season in the natural rock pool right in front of Wijeya Beach. A few minutes stroll down the beach is Unawatuna Bay where numerous watersports are on offer including deep-sea fishing. Wijeya Beach has surf boards and can organise scuba diving, snorkelling, and boating excursions.
Excursions
High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple; walk around the headland through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach' - a little known and secluded beach. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, and a growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
