Wild Grass is a luxurious eco-retreat set amidst acres of wilderness in the rural village of Kumbukkadanwala in Sigiriya. This is a nature lover’s paradise with the untouched wilderness at your doorstep. Wild Grass is situated just 15 minutes away from the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and 20 minutes from the ancient Dambulla cave temple. This is a convenient location form which to explore the fascinating sights of the Cultural Triangle. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take up to four hours.
Introduction
Surrounded by jungles, a lake and the Kandalama hills, Wild Grass is a welcoming eco-retreat where you can enjoy nature without having to sacrifice luxurious living. Utterly tranquil and immersed in the wilderness, life unfolds here at your pace. Wake up to the call of peacock that is found in plenty just outside your villa; set off on an adventurous nature trail; by nightfall have a candlelit dinner accompanied by the sounds of the jungle. Wild Grass is set amidst 30 acres of unfenced wilderness that is frequently visited by the occasional wild elephant, rabbits, deer, wild boar and over 40 species of birds. Accommodation here is in luxurious two-storey villas that have been built with the minimum disturbance to the natural surroundings. An open sided, two storey pavilion located away from the villas, houses the restaurant and lounge and is flanked by a large rock on one side and overlooks a man made lake and the magnificent Kandalama hills on the other. A strict nature conservation philosophy is followed here and much is being done to preserve the natural eco-systems. Organic farming methods are used to cultivate fruit and vegetables for the resort’s own use with the balance requirements purchased form the villagers who are also encouraged to use eco-friendly practices. Wild Grass is an ideal holiday retreat mainly for nature lovers who like their privacy and are looking to spend a quiet holiday.

Accommodation
There are five individual villas – two family villas and three one bedroom villas -- with each located within a walled garden and surrounding views of the wilderness. The villas are set about 50 feet apart ensuring complete privacy and solitude and are contemporary in design with timber roofs, polished cement floors and glass sliding doors/windows that opens out to the wilderness. The interiors are comfortably furnished and are equipped with flat-screen TV with satellite channels, tea/coffee facility, wireless internet, IDD telephone, minibar, reading material, board and card games. Bedrooms are described below. There are also two bicycles in each villa that guests can use to cycle up to the dining pavilion or explore the village.
Each villa has individual butler service. Each has a living room with a comfortable sofa that can also be used as a day bed; dining room with a six-seater dining table; open-air terrace; and bathroom with wash basin, w/c and open air h/w shower.

One bedroom villas (1,800 sq ft): The three spacious one-bedroom villas consist of a living and dining room on the ground floor and a/c bedroom and ensuite bathroom on the upper floor. Three guests can be accommodated in each villa.

Family villas (2,600 sq ft): There are two family villas each with a luxurious master suite and an additional double bedroom which can accommodate up to four guests. Each bedroom has cable TV and ensuite bathrooms with open air h/w showers.
Facilities
Wild Grass offers dining under stars in the main restaurant’s roof terrace as well at your villa. Dining timings are completely decided by the guests. The menu includes both international and local cuisine and is cooked by Chef Tissa, who also manages the resort. The resort has a large swimming pool and sundeck for relaxation. Well-marked trails for walking, cycling and/or jogging exist within the resort. An outdoor badminton playing area is also available. Mountain bikes are offered for those wishing to explore the local area and surrounding countryside.
Excursions
There is plenty to do just around Wild Grass Nature Resort including jungle treks, fishing in the lake, bird watching, meditation and yoga. Beyond the village of Kumbukkadanwala, the entire Cultural Triangle lies in close proximity including the Sigiriya Rock Fortres, Dambulla Cave temple, ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. The Minneriya National Park is also located nearby. Large groups of elephants, sambar deer and toque monkeys are regularly seen here, as well as plenty of bird life. Wild Grass can organize safaris starting from the resort itself. Mountain bikes are offered for those wishing to explore the local area and surrounding countryside.
