Kurumba House, Tangalle

Kurumba House is a lovely two-bedroom beach villa set on a secluded stretch of beach in the fishing village of Mahawella near Tangalle. Driving directly from Colombo Airport is a long drive – six hours minimum if the traffic is kind – so you are best considering a stopover.
Introduction
Kurumba House is ideal for a couple or a family and offers comfortable accommodation right on the beach. The bright white interiors are stylishly decorated with soft flowing curtains and white cane chairs. The 3 km stretch of beach is safe for swimming during the season from December to April. If simple barefoot living amidst a peaceful setting is the holiday atmosphere you are seeking then Kurumba House fits the bill.

Accommodation
The two double bedrooms open out to the verandah with sea views and are furnished with double bed dressed in fine linen. Overhead fans keep the rooms cool. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
Dining and living area in the spacious verandah overlooking the garden and the Indian Ocean waters. The fully fitted kitchen is located by the dining area. At the bottom of the garden is a thatched pavilion which is ideal for yoga or for an afternoon siesta. The beach here is good for swimming and boogie boarding during the season. Kurumba House is staffed with a cook and housekeeper.
Excursions
Based at Mirissa Harbour, Mirissa Water Sports offers several activities including whale watching, snorkeling, sailing, river trips, and sea kayaking. Mirissa Water Sports is a charitable organization helping to generate employment for the youth from the tsunami affected coastal areas. Visit Rakuwa, a small fishing village near Tangalle where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save this endangered species. Visit the ancient Mulkirigala temple or the Wewurukannala Temple with its massive 165ft high Buddha stature. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy an adventurous safari into Yala National Park which is one of the largest national parks in the island where elephant and leopard can be seen. The Bundala Bird Sanctuary with numerous varieties of endemic and migrant species is located about 45 minutes away. We also recommend a visit to the historic city of Galle and its 17th century Dutch Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the old Fort, a small walled city with about 300 homes and an old-world feel, still remain with its well preserved bastions, public buildings, churches, lighthouse and a maze of narrow streets.
