Mermaid Hotel & Club is a mid-ranged, all inclusive beach resort situated in Kalutara on the south west coast. Located just 45 minutes away from the capital city Colombo, this is an ideal first or last stop on a holiday in Sri Lanka. Kalutara is just one hour away from Bentota where there are plenty of watersports on offer. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take upto two hours.
Introduction
Mermaid Hotel & Club is the sister property of the more up-market Saman Villas located further along the coast. Mermaid Hotel reopened in September 2011 following a refurbishment of their rooms. The main hotel area consists of 82 a/c bedrooms with most having sea views, restaurant, and swimming pool. There is also a separate recreation and fitness club which also has a wellness spa. The beach here is lovely for early morning walks and taking in the sunset. Safe swimming in the Indian Ocean however, is not possible here in Kalutara. The sea towards Bentota is recommended for swimming during the season from December to April.

Accommodation
The bedrooms at Mermaid are well furnished and infused with tones of sea green. All rooms have a/c, overhead fans, flat screen TV with satellite channels, IDD telephone, CD player, mini-bar, and safe.

Standard Rooms: These 72 bedrooms have private balconies that overlook the central gardens, swimming pool and partial sea views. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.

Superior Rooms: The 10 Superior Rooms are located closer to the beach and have direct sea views. Ensuite bathrooms have white marble bath tubs and h/w showers.
Facilities
The main restaurant serves Sri Lankan and international cuisine with the adjacent alfresco area reserved for special candlelit dinners. There are four bars located around the hotel including a pool side bar, beach bar and an indoor a/c bar with snooker table. The main swimming pool is located amidst coconut palms with a large terraced area for lounging. The adjoining sports and recreation club offers a range of activities such as tennis, croquet, squash, badminton, volleyball, gym, and a second swimming pool for water polo and aqua-aerobics. The Sahana Spa located within the Club offers a range of relaxing massages, reflexology, and yoga.
Excursions
Visit Kosgoda’s marine turtle hatchery – a valuable conservation project that protects the endangered Marine Turtles of Sri Lanka. Venture off to Bentota where numerous watersports are on offer including surfing, snorkelling, and jet skiing. Take a boat ride along the tranquil Madu River past quaint rural villages, en route, visit the local markets, temples & craft and antique shops. We also recommend a visit to Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort, a UNESCO world heritage site with a maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, and a growing collection of art galleries, shops, cafes and boutique hotels.
