Chandrika is mid-range hotel that offers clean and comfortable rooms in Tissamaharama in the deep south. Located on the Tissa – Kataragama road, this is a convenient location from which to explore the ancient temples of Tissa and the jungle shrine of Kataragama. Yala National Park is only 30 minutes away.
Introduction
Hotel Chandrika has a large restaurant that serves Sri Lankan, Indian and western cuisine. The a/c bedrooms are located over two floors overlooking nicely landscaped gardens and the swimming pool. There is also a wellness centre that offers relaxing Ayurvedic massages.

There are 20 a/c bedrooms equipped with cable TV, telephone and 24 hour room service. Bedrooms are furnished with twin beds that can be put together upon request. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
There is a large dining area and bar that is also open to non-resident guests. A range of Sri Lankan cuisine, Indian vegetarian cuisine, and western dishes are served here. The swimming pool with a pool bar is set amidst lush tropical gardens. The small Ayurveda centre offers relaxing massages.
Excursions
Tissamaharama was the capital of the ancient Ruhunu Kingdom in the 2nd century B.C. Tissa, named after King Kavantissa, is dominated by reservoirs and gigantic Buddhist Dagobas (temples). The reservoirs attract many species of water birds including cormorant, purple heron, Caspian tern and the painted stork. The sacred jungle shrine of Kataragama is located nearby, as are several ancient Buddhist temples and an archeological Museum that provides a glimpse into the ancient Ruhunu kingdom. Explore the jungle of Yala. A jeep safari into the Yala National Park is possible at dawn and again at about 3.30 pm. when the birds and animals are more visible. Red Dot can arrange a safari jeep to come directly to Hotel Chandrika and get you to the park entrance on time. The excursion can take up to three hours accompanied by a wildlife tracker. Yala National Park, with a total protected area of 126,768 hectares, is one of the best places to see a wide variety of Sri Lankan wildlife because of its scrub plains, lagoons and rocky sections. Boasting one of the world's densest leopard populations, Yala attracts many visitors. Yala is also home to herds of elephants, sloth bear, sambar, spotted deer, wild boar, crocodiles, monkeys and numerous species of birds.
