Cantaloupe Aqua is a 16 bedroomed boutique hotel with an informal and youthful feel perched at the edge of the Indian Ocean in the village of Thalpe on the Galle coast. Opened in December 2010, the hotel also takes the air of a beach club at night and is ideal for younger holiday travellers. Unawatuna with its sun kissed beaches, restaurants and bars is only 10 minutes away and Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort is about 20 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take upto four hours or consider taking the Air Taxi that lands at Koggola which is only a 10 minute drive from here.
Introduction
Cantaloupe Aqua is a stylish contemporary hotel which is a welcome addition to the Galle Coast. Situated on a narrow strip of land that is edged by the turquoise seas, the hotel has 16 bedrooms and suites with most having spectacular sea views. The open-sided restaurant is edged by an infinity plunge pool, beach deck and the ocean beyond. Interiors are tastefully designed with modern furniture and contemporary local art. Cantaloupe Aqua offers well appointed bedrooms and suites; fusion cuisine and an informal feel that makes you feel right at home. Every other Friday night the restaurant, bar and beach deck turns into a beach club with DJ music and dancing - a much anticipated event that is also attended by non-resident guests. Cantaloupe Aqua is owned by Cantaloupe & Co. that also owns the popular night club Ameuseum and Cantaloupe Boutique located in Galle Face Court in Colombo Fort.

Accommodation
The 16 Aqua rooms are spread over two floors and are categorized as Aqua Ocean Play, Aqua Zen, and Aqua Chic. Each of the rooms has a distinct character and is well designed with large glass windows that allows for uninterrupted sea views. Three of the 16 rooms do not have direct sea views. Room interiors are well furnished with king size beds and two seater-sofas. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers. Other standard in-room facilities include a/c, overhead fan, 26 inch LCD TV with satellite channels, and wifi internet facility.

Aqua Aqua: These three rooms have all the standard facilities but no sea views.

Aqua Ocean Play Standard: There are eight standard rooms of which the ground floor rooms open out to the beach deck and the upper floor rooms have private balconies with sea views.

Aqua Ocean Play Deluxe: These two rooms are more spacious and have a lounge area that opens out to a private balcony with sea views. Interiors are furnished with king size bed, three-seater sofa, ottomans and coffee table. In addition to the standard facilities these two rooms have 32 inch LCD TVs and mini-bar.

Aqua Zen: This room is a duplex with a lounge area on the ground floor opening out to a private balcony and sleeping area on the mezzanine floor. This room has wooden floors, electrically retractable curtains, and white washed walls decorated with contemporary art. Furniture includes king size bed, seating for six in the lounge area, and mini-bar.

Aqua Chic: The two Aqua Chic suites are spacious and have white wooden floors, mood lighting, and a Jacuzzi set within a tempered glass balcony overlooking the sea. These suites are equipped with 42 inch LCD TVs, Bose iPod docks with preloads play list, and mini-bar. Ensuite bathrooms have twin vanities and h/w showers.
Facilities
The main restaurant `Coconut’ serves fusion cuisine with emphasis on Sri Lankan, Western and Thai dishes. The outdoor lounge area overlooking the sea features a white timber deck furnished with sun beds, white sofas and coffee tables. An infinity plunge pool with Jacuzzi and lit up with LED lights, is located right by the lounge area along side the `Ameusum’ bar. This entire outdoor lounge area, bar and plunge pool is lit up at nightfall to give a feel of a beach club. The hotel looks onto a secluded bay where safe swimming, snorkeling and surfing is possible during the season from December to April.
Excursions
Scuba diving and snorkeling is possible in Unawatuna Bay. Venture out just off the coast and you will find a myriad of marine life as well as ship wrecks waiting to be explored. There are also several surf points nearby including Mihiripanna, Unawatuna, and Dahawalla. Take a boat ride on Koggala Lake where rural life unfolds. Along the way, visit a village temple or a cinnamon estate. The south of Sri Lanka beyond Dondra is considered one of the best locations in the world for spotting Blue Whales, Sperm Whales and Spinner Dolphins. During the season, whale and dolphin watching excursions are organised by Mirissa Water Sports and Ceylon Fisheries Corporation based at the Mirissa harbour. We also recommend a visit to Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort, a UNESCO world Heritage Site. An entire morning can be spent exploring the maze of narrow roadways lined with Dutch and British Colonial era buildings that are still in use, sturdy ramparts overlooking Galle’s international cricket stadium, and scattering of shops, art galleries, museums, boutique hotels and cafes.
